I'm posting a couple of excerpts from my set (which was early on so a lot of USAians missed it) in the Klee Music thread in the Klee forum. Thanks to those who did comment; I chose to do something very different from my usual (comfortable) performance parameters and it was helpful to have constructive comments. Anyway, look there for parts of my set. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Ha, this USAian didn't miss it. Very nice. Being a fan of pieces like Coleman's "Free Jazz" or Coltrane's "Ascesion," I thought your piece had a very good level of tension. Thanks! _________________ When the stream is deep

In http://bluehell.electro-music.com/nye/ I made a sub-item "listen again", I put in all the links I found here and in the klee thread. I'll probably edit it up a bit later to get all the info from the schedule in.
When I forgot a link, or when you didn't post a link and still want to be in the list please let me know ... (here or through a PM) I'll edit it in then. When you want to be in and you have no recording, chances are that I have one that I could add (but some recordings are pretty bad). And when you want me to remove a link ... I'll do that too _________________ Jan

Recordings of Sets? |
|
|
I've been working with the mix that I got locally from Oddcast, and from what others listening told me, I'm not sure it is the same. In mine the drum tracks pegged the envelope, but I was told that it didn't sound like that, etc. Did anyone record my set? Or does Howard and Co. have a copy of each one?
Moreover were there plans to post them online? Hm, the disk space must have been problematic at best... Well thanks for having me, and let's get something more frequent going on! _________________ Stephen Goodman

I didn't record anything. I was too exhausted. The process involved constantly editing shoutcast config files and sending UNIX signals to processes as root on the server. I need to write some more software to make it easier for me to run these things. In previous years, we had more one hour sets and the changes were less frequent.
I would like to copy the recordings we have and put them on the server so we can add them to the on-demand music we already have there. I assume nobody objects to that or they wouldn't have participated in the first place, but still, if have objections of any kind, please let me know.
It's a relatively high priority for me to set up a 24/7 streaming radio station, but it's a lot of work. We already have a lot of stuff. There seems to be a lot of software for running web radio that runs on PCs, but I want something that runs on the server so as not to be dependent on any extraneous network connections. If anyone has experience with this and would be willing to help, that would be appreciated. _________________ --Howard

Thanks once again, Howard and Jan. I've had a few requests for a recording of my piece, and there were several others that I want to point people to. I didn't record anything because I had my CPU maxed out with multiple software feedback layers. I should have recorded on another machine. Maybe after I get that next Glyph drive!
Howard -- I don't have any immediate help to offer, especially with semester 2 immediately ahead. But, I have some research ideas for synchronized interactive media streams. Maybe if we can find the right set of grad students, we could take a look at writing an NSF or similar grant proposal. I doubt I'd get to it before summer -- I am already falling behind on what I hoped to complete over Christmas break -- but it seems like a long term possibility that we should discuss. I'll be doing some homework on NSF grants this spring, anyway, so I'll keep an eye out for anything that would fit the bill. In the meantime, I've forwarded the URL for your post above to our CSC grad coordinator and our primary networking professor, in case they know of any grad students who might be likely research candidates along these lines. Seems like we might have an opportunity to break some interactive ground here. _________________ When the stream is deep

thanks for that. I liked what I heard between the rebuffering. Maybe next time we can do some testing guidelines or something to help debug these before the event. It's all stressful to do on the night. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

that should take you to the place to hear our set
I touched it up just a little and trimmed.
Again, Thanks Howard and everyone who played, was a great time !!!
Also, there is a new video out, see youtube.com/dalekay ...
The next day we did record what we did on the set in normal studio session (well normal for us). I have a rough mix down and master. It should be up at our myspace in the next few days. If anyone wants to hear the end result.
