So after extensive testing I am pretty sure there is something majorly wrong with my NL2.

-demo songs freeze and carsh
-Get distorted noise at startup
-Only 8 notes polyphony
-playing more than 4 unison voices can result in a freeze+crash

It really seems like there is a fault on the digital board and is causing DSP not work. When I looked inside I could see that on the pcb where the ribbon cable from the front panel attaches it is pretty bent (as in someone pressed too hard and caused the pcb to permanently bend down. This may have caused soem traces to break or something.

Is there not a self test mode built in??? I would be suprised if there wasn't. The os should be telling there is issues but I do not get any error codes displayed.

I just bought this NL2 this weekend form a guy so I guess I need to try and get a refund Sad

I am having an identical set of problems with my NL2.

The same white noise burst on boot up, limited polyphony (4 voices) which eventually crashes, patches freezing in performance mode. I even tried the demo song which crashed at the same spot.

I have opened up the top and checked all connections. It is not connected to any other devices.

Please post and let me know if you solve the problem, and I'll do the same.

Thanks for the reply Wout.

I have read that thread.

I tried opening up the hood and checking all the connectors.

I don't think it is a power supply issue. I have tried it in several different outlets with no other gear plugged in. I even have one of these at my studio and tried it.

http://www.monstercable.com/power/voltage_stabilizers/pro_musician.asp

I usually don't have the MIDI connections hooked up so I don't think that is the problem either.

I don't think I'll try re-soldering the chip either.

Sorry, Tonyggg, who ever believes when the warranty period is over and something breaks down, it will be repaired by Korg, Roland or Yamaha for free? No shipping costs what-so-ever? Is there any computer company doing this? To keep all the spare parts in stock and replacing these by technician holding a soldering-iron in his hand...? It doesn't work no more for years now. Just replacing the complete board, which could be less expensive in the end, BTW.

Hi,

All tough I didn't check the demo songs, I suddenly had the same problems! Losing half of the polyphony and crackling sounds booting up the synth, because reset is always cutting down the power Smile
I spend about two hours checking the synth and the internet... No luck.
Went to bed and overlooked everything I had done that evening with the synth. Suddenly the answer splashed into my mind and I yelled: "Dat is het!" (Dutch equivalent of the Greek 'Eureka') My wife almost died terrifying, she was half asleep...

I switched the USB Midi interface (MidiMan 2x2) from USB to Midi Trough. I created a Midi loop! All Midi Out from the synth was also Midi In, so every key was played twice, which results in half of polyphony. (There was a little delay which made me wonder)
Once set back to USB the polyphony was right, no crackling anymore and the demo's I didn't try. All Clavia instruments are known to be sensitive and crash when receiving (a lot of) Midi when booting.

Look out for Midi loops!

Wout

hi wout

thx for the response.

the problem is definitely not a midiloop.
when i push the trigger button on the nordrack ,same result.
the polymode plays 8 voices only.
when i reduce the release or the adsr envelope as well ,then its working fine.
and also in mono mode ,no problems!

greetz,

winehouse

Mono mode and Voices should never be a problem.
How are you checking the number of Voices?
Try this:
Only one Slot active, the other Slot LED's are NOT lit!
NO Unison!
Press [Shift+Arp=Hold]
All keys are staying in Sustain and will sound for ever (in a way Wink)
Choose a sound with a clear audible Attack and surely a Sustain.
Play only white keys after each other.
When number 17 is played the first note should be muted.
To notice this I first play a high key and the rest low.

If you still can't hear it, play the most highest first and in Hold mode play the lowest several times. When hitting the lowest one fifteen times the highest should be gohne...

i perform this procedure-and the result is the NL plays only 8 voices
if I play more than 16 keys at the same time ,thrusts the NL2 hang over and i must be choice a hard reset with the power button.

i think the voice bord ist dead. is possible ,theres 2 voiceboards ala 8 voices on the motherboard?. any suggestions?
its possible to service btw repair this item?

i hope intellijel and timbo come back to this tread an tell his history of the nl2!

greetz,

I never got my NL2 fixed.

Clavia did absolutely nothing to help and have terrible policies surrounding these issues.

I will never buy a Clavia product again as a result.
