M185 sequencer Project - NEW PCB VERSION Subject description: multi step / multi mode analogue sequencer

| Hello Forum ! 
 [my first proper post !]
 
 I have been making some new Roland 100m Modules, as they
 have been discontinued for a while !
 
 
   
 Here is a link to a new sequencer I have been working on

 It has step repeat switches:- [1-8] and gate mode switches:-
 [off/single/repeat/long] for each stage, plus random & pingpong mode.
 
 It is based around a PIC, so is software update-able.
 
 I am thinking of making a run of boards for the controller PCB
 if anyone is interested . . . ?

| Looks and sounds amazing, I just love the way you mounted all the components on the pcb. Would be in for one for sure maybe two, does it all fit on one pcb ? upper side for hardware, lower for components ?

| Ever thought of controlling a flanger or a phaser say with a normal LFO up to a certain point in the sweep, and then have a sequencer kick in to make it cough and splutter to the top, and if it has thru zero capability, over the other side and back, when the LFO takes over?? |  |

 Not too cheap, but they are good quality, and nice people.
 
 Price for the boards and PICs I will work out, depending on
 how many to make, and post back next week hopefully.
 
 Does anybody have strong opinions about the fixing holes ?
 At the moment they are  M3 sized, positioned fairly arbitrarily
 due to position with Roland 100m pot-panel.
 Board size is about 105x80mm.
 Top two fixing holes are 72mm apart, along long side.
 Bottom two fixing holes re 63.5mm apart, along long side.

 I saw this on the System 100M forum I believe. Thanks for making the project available, great work. I would like 4 sets of boards and pics.
 
 I would recommend you put the mounting holes at the corners and if you have enough space, you could put extra holes at 4 edge centers so it gives extra options just in case someone is space challenged via the flying leads or their front panel layout. Also helpful might be to put mta.100 headers for the wires a la  EM Klee. This will be good a source for clocking The Em Klee.
 
 Sorry for asking , but here goes. Any possibility of voltage controlled stage addressing?

 Regarding the connectors, the 8way for the LEDs and Pots are 2.54mm
 spacing so should work with  MTA100 or similar kind of connector.
 Screw holes, they will probably stay where they are, sorry.

 No as the CV's dont go through the PIC, they are just plain analogue.

 Yes basically, you have an input jack that samples the incoming voltage and an ADC converts it to a binary number which sets the counter to the appropriate stage. Once the incoming voltage goes past a voltage threshold, the addressing follows the voltage at the input jack.
 
 Most systems have 0 to 5 volts or 0 to 10 volts ranges, so an option to configure the input for both would be very useful. It is a powerful feature, maybe the random switch could be switched for this feature. You could then use noise to have the random effect or other types of voltages to control the sequencer.

| Absolutely awesome, I love it. Personally, I wouldn't change a thing. Okay, maybe add a "random" feature. Since the voltages are still analog, I'm assuming you're using the PIC to generate a binary count for an analog multiplexer (like a 4051). I have to ask, what was your inspiration for the per step features (mute, repeat, etc.)? I've been thinking of doing something similar, and I really like the way you've implemented it here.

 I was inspired by watching a Youtube clip of the excellent
 YMO in the studio circa 1979, where they demonstrated
 the Moog sequencer on their track Rydeen.
 Which used the step repeat function.
 
 I went to China last year, and found some pretty obscure
 8way switches, so I thought this would be a good use for them.
 
 8 pitch steps can, if used carefully, make
 pretty good 4 bar bass lines, by changing the length between
 notes, and repeating some notes.
 
 I was too lazy to use a decoder, so the PIC outputs BCD, which
 is quite a waste of IO pins, but it keeps the board size small [no decoder chips]
 It does have a random step mode, if that's what you mean.
 
 I keep wanting to add more features, but end up with having
 to use "soft-selection" for modes, rather than nice big switches, which
 is a shame . . .
