Synare info Subject description: Any circuit info for Synare S3X or 4? |
 |
|
I've had a Synare 4 for years that has never worked. It looks like the circuit board has been modded quite a bit, and one of the ICs looks to have been replaced (it's not soldered down completely flat though the pin contacts look ok). I'd like to bring it back to spec, and most importantly, get it working again. Does anyone know where I might find a schematic, high level circuit diagram, or even a couple hi-res photos of both side of the board that I can use to figure out what on mine is incorrect?
I also picked up an S3X at a garage sale that works nicely, but I'm not sure the pots inside are set just right. Anyone have info for the S3X?

I have S3 repair manual and S3X schematics.
With both you have some kind of S3x service manual.
S3 and S3X are different but with some circuits in common.
Hope it helps.
S3 Repair Manual.
S3X Schematics.

My S3X did not work and the problem was simple: the regulator. |

Thank you for the docs. I really like the handwritten S3X manual. I'm hoping that the Synare 4 has enough overlap with the 3's to allow me to troubleshoot it using these schematics. The regulator section will be the first place I check.
I see that the 3 used 2 9-volt batteries, while the S3X uses a single external 9-volt supply. Does anyone know what power the 4 requires? |

Got the Synare 4 working. Turns out it was the 78L05 regulator (thanks for the tip austrohungaro!), plus lots of cold solder joints around 4 of the pots and extra jumpers and a resistor/cap pair that someone added to the 3080 at one point. The thing sounds great now. |

Did you manage to figure out the power requirements for the Synare 4 ? I too have a broken one (and a Synare Timpani) but am not too sure how to hook up a PSU or battery. |

The Synare 4 needs a power adapter that has an 1/8" plug with + at the tip. I've had success with as low as 9v, but the Synare adapter I have is 18v and actually reads about 23v even under load. |

I have a non functioning Synare 4. I have schematics to a S3 and S3X, but they are significantly different. Seems like S4 has some mods. I'd like to try to get it back to spec. Does anyone out there have schematics or any high res pictures of the circuit board? |

Synare Info Subject description: Synare Tympani? |
 |
|
Fairly OT, but I'd love to build my own Synare Tympani. My Google-Fu has turned up nothing, but I'm wondering if anybody has any info (especially a schematic) of the Tympani. The only thing I've been able to find is a none to clear pic of the internal electronics (about ten ICs including a wide body 24 pin which I'm hoping isn't a special ROM or some other unobtanium). Anybody got anything?
Tim (can't afford the roadies to carry around real tympani) Servo |

Did anyone track down schemos or service notes for the Synare 4 or Tympani yet ? I'm having no luck getting mine working. |

I'm in the same boat, I have a Tympani with no PSU and would love to know what voltage it takes and also what each of the inputs and outputs are.
I have not owned one before (obviously!) and can't find documentation anywhere! Any help would be awesome. |

Just trying to resurrect a defect one (Timpani it is) . So i found out:
- controls on front of you
- left of you are two jacks (6,3mm) wired the same way, i assume pedal, will test further
- on the right side, there is 6,3mm mm going to middle on the PCB, maybe output
- two 3.5mm Racks for Power ( daisy-chaining ?) both going to Electrolyte and a 7XX5 regulator, so it's definitely 5-6 V DC input with center positive.
Mine has a blown Transistor and an burnt elco, which i am fixing now.
Anybody able to identify me which Transistor is used there ? it's the rightmost one close to the 10uf elco on the right side. _________________ Homepage - http://www.czmok.de

I have a Synare 3 which I love and use pretty often, and thus have to repair every few months. For a long time now I've been thinking about scanning the PCB, touching it up in Photoshop, and creating a DIY layout to make it possible to reproduce should it come to the end of it's nine lives. I guess the first step is just getting a good scan-- which would require a scanner, which I could possibly use at work ("Eric, what in the hell are you doing to our scanner?!?").
It would be really great if someone with the Synare 4 or Tympani could do the same thing. The Tympani in particular I find extremely impressive and would love get my hands on. |

Synare Timpani Transistor ID |
 |
|
To JanVanVolt
Just got a Synare Timpani in for service this eve...
The "transistor" you're referring to (sandwiched between two 10uf/25v electrolytics) is actually a +12v Regulator
p/n 78L12AWC (+ 12v @100ma) (ECG/NTE950)
(78 = Positive, L = TO-92 case style [vs larger TO-220 style 78M12]
Hope this helps!
Owner lost the Power Supply... anyone knowing the correct voltage/current, &/or having a schematic/owner's manual would be greatly appreciated.
Assume it's something over 12v... 13-15 maybe? |
