I seem to be having some weirdness here,

I kicked of the editor and it failed to see the G2, so I thought oh bugger there goes the USB port.

Connected a laptop to it and it worked, super duper.

So I began to investigate a bit further, the machine can see the G2 over USB fine. When I start the editor the usb system on the machine gets buggered, different usb devices stop working including the apple keyboard. The machine will not restart and needs to be power cycled to get it back.

Running a Windows VM the editor sees the G2 correctly but the keyboard stops working.

Anyone seen anything like this before?

Cheers

Andy

Not here ... osx 10.10.3 on imac seems to work just fine here, and befor that I had 10.5.8 on a macbook, worked ok too.

Just the usual problems .. the patch indicators stop working after a couple of days and may then come back at times .. and then after a week or two maybe it will say that a major error occurred ... windows XP did all that too.

Anyway .. what OSX version should I avoid?

Well its Yosemite, but it had been working fine and know it is working fine again.

I think it's something possibly to do with the usb3 ports on this macpro, things can get into a state it seems!

I've not only seen this on 10.10, but also verified with Apple that it is a known issue. One of the main reasons for this bug can be if you have bluetooth enabled and you're near a device (particularly a keyboard), that has just automatically paired with your machine without you knowing it. If this happens, it's likely that the keyboard focus (and mouse) has temporarily been stolen and that until you hot plug another device into the USB port, the system will not respond to keyboard presses or trackpad interaction.

If this is not your particular flavor of issue, I apologize, but it did sound similar.

Let me know if this is helpful... I struggled w/ this for a while too.
I'm currently investigating whether or not this also leads to the "major error" error that periodically pops up when I'm in performance mode, or if they are two separate issues.

Fun times!

I should mention that this is all after getting my g2 serviced by an authorized service location near me. I'm hoping that the few errors i've gotten are related to hot plugging and order-of-operations rather than something that the repair technician missed. I should admit that I'm curious whether this is a software or hardware issue... most of what I've read regarding that particular error points to it being a software integration issue w/ the OS.

My problem in the end was a 8 port USB 3 hub. The hub was advertising itself as four 4 port hubs (2 usb2 and 2 usb3) with each hub pair chained. This seems to cause issues with OS X.

I dumped it an bought two 4 port hubs and the issue went away.

I've actually found that this is not solved. Not on my computer, anyway.
My laptop has an issue with one of the USB ports. It seems that everything works fine in the editor with a particular port, but if I use the other port one of the following occurs:

1. Major Error
2. No communication whatsoever - OS doesn't even see G2

I have decided to take my machine to an apple specialist along with my keyboard so that I can evaluate it with them in person. This is far too frustrating to let it go, and I've spent a long time assuming it was my G2!

What I've found is that the cause is unknown, but I can get the USB ports to "wake up" somewhat if I plug an apple keyboard (maybe other devices would work too) into one of them to trigger a rescan.

Super frustrating... I hope I don't have to pay to get my port updated but if I do, so be it.
Basically what I'm finding is that although I have two USB ports on my laptop, I can not use both of them simultaneously. I was trying to use one for the G2 communication with the editor and the other for an audio interface that also has MIDI on it.

I'm going to try to do some testing with another machine to see if I get similar issues or if it's literally just my single machine.

OK, just verified that the G2 can function properly with a Sabrent 4-port USB hub with individual power switches, on the port that works. I'm now able to use both the audio interface and the G2.

Very Happy

OSX 10.10.5
Nord G2 editor 1.62
Nord G2 firmware 1.40 w/ expansion
