Newbie G2X questions (Please!) |
 |
|
Hi all,
This is my first post to this group,
I just have bought a second-hand Nord G2X,
wow... what a wonderful unit !
Now, my NM1rack is officially for sale !!
My question is:
In the G2X, is the expension board can be taken out of the synth?
How can I check if my G2X have expanded performance?
For exemple, on slot 1, I have the first factory preset (--Welcome G2 --)
I can t get more than 15 voices poly, is it the case for other G2X (or G2exp) users?
Any information would be very appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Welcome vlab, to electro-music.com
Doesn't the G2X display its extension status during power-on ? Besides the X should always be expanded ... ok, I'd still want to check it as well :-)
Easiest way to check otherwise is to make a patch that uses between 50% and 100% dsp resources in the voice area only (with an empty effects area), this can be a nonsense patch of course - tip: throw in a vocoder module.
Such a patch should give you 8 voices when expansion is installed, 4 otherwise. _________________ Jan

Hi !!
Thanks for the fast reply !!
and thanks for the tip, indeed, a patch with 2 vocoders
in the CVA gives me 56.5% CPU and 8 voices poly !
So I guess my G2X is not amputated but a normal one!
My NM1 had no expension and I didn't know how it was implemented,
I wish there would be a place in the System settings about the expension installed or not..and it s nowhere I found in the manual.
Otherwise, It s a fantastic machine, is it me or it really sounds better than the NM1? I still may be in my new synth ecstasy, but the oscillators sounds way better to me, so does the filters.... anyone made comparison patches ?

We prefer "different", just to avoid flame wars :-)
(but that's a bit boring maybe) _________________ Jan

Congrats on the new X and to electro-music.com
Hey, in my world, a new synthesizer always sounds better.
Anyhow, the G2X is very fine. It's very deep. With the built-in effects you can make some very beautiful music with it. Get a nice case and it's a great protable rig. Not all that much more than a laptop... _________________ --Howard

Hi vlab and welcome. If you want to check if your g2x is really expanded, simply try to load my rEvolver patch: http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-6680.html
It wouldn't run on an unexpanded G2, so you can have a definitive proof

I tried your Revolver patch... and it s the best patch

Funny there is soo much cheezy FM patches in the factory

My first post as well |
 |
|
My G2X just came in Tues. Bought it new.
I lost my workstation (Motif Es7) due to some money issues earlier this year. Things have gotten better and was ready to repurchase. However, I've been dying to get some of my old synths back. Things like a DX or Oberheim M6. Something I could enjoy creating patches on.
I guess I've been under a rock, but I didn't know about the G2 until I ran into one in Dallas. Just played it, had no idea about the modularness of it. I was stoked. Went home and googled it. Holy cow! I think I drooled on my computer keyboard looking at the editor.
I'm no synth wiz, but I do like to tweak a lot and I love to come up with my own stuff. I love the fact that I can have 3 Osc going into a fat filter, and then thinking.....hmmm I would love to slap a sine wave at a 5 over and have it slowly pulse in and out. It couldn't be easier.
This thing rocks. It's the anti-Motif and that's another reason I love it.
I'm just not sure how I can convince my wife that I'll ever need another VA! I may just get the electro and leave the rest to the PC!
Glad to find this |
