BUCHLA 291e / new AMPLITUDE feature |
 |
|
Quote: | The 291e Triple Morphing Filter consists of three voltage controlled filters operating independently or in parallel.
The amplitude, center frequency, and bandwidth of each filter may be independently voltage controlled. Each may be modulated with externally applied signals. |
Hi,
is anyone have a clue to understand how this new AMPLITUDE feature is implemented ?
VCA on signal input ?
VCA on signal output ?
vactrol vca style (292) ?
Is it here to lower input signal when RESO/BW settings start to get dangerous ?
Cheers,
ff

I believe it's a vactrol on the output. It only effects the mix out (not the individual filter outs), so it can't be on the input of the filter. _________________ Chris Muir

SOS quotes :
Quote: | As its name suggests, the 291e contains three digitally controlled analogue band-pass filters, with control over centre frequency, amplitude and bandwidth, the last two of which imitate the resonance of traditional band-pass filters, but without self-oscillation |
Since yesterday, I was about to think Don's AMPLITUDE to be what Scott Stites called Resonance.

However, Don had a lot of (nasty) things to tell about this article... |

I am such an ignorant.
I had to wander around Music Easel and youtube to realise that 259's TIMBRE is (also surely) through zero FM.
Quote: | The complex osc triangle wave is amplitude modulated by the mod osc, then the timbre control (through zero FM) on the complex osc is raised around the 7 sec mark. At about 20 secs the switch is flipped to change from AM to FM on the mod osc., varying the frequency until it's back to triangle, then sine. |

SOS is wrong here. It really is just amplitude of the filter into the mix. It allows you to set the level of each filter, for each step of the mini-marf.

It's not FM. It's in the general class of non-linear transform that some call a wave folder. The Timbre section of the Music Easel, the 259 and the 261e are all fairly similar.
The Serge Wave Multiplier is another example of a wave folder.

I am such ignorant.
Thank you for these real precious infos.
Now I guess that Cynthia's Zeroscillator is in no way a 259 style sound generator ? (i think i've read that somewhere online )
I'd better stop googling.
Cheers,

No, the Zeroscillator is not that similar to the 259. The Zeroscillator specializes in FM, which is great for what it is; I have one on order.
The 259, with it's Timbre section, is in its own world, much of which it shares with the current 261e, and to some extent with the Music Easel. _________________ Chris Muir
