Just for what it's worth ... there seems to be a mix up of a couple of things ...
The link points to a site advertizing MM5837N noise source for the poly moog, not for a buchla. The MM5738 seems to be a calculator chip, but note the digit swaps. Also http://www.musicsynthesizer.com/Buchla/source_of_uncertainty.htm (schematics for the buchla 266 source of uncertainty) doesn't list either of these chips in it's schematics ... it uses a traditional parallel out shift register for the random generator ... and it needs to be done that way to be able to get the 2^n and the n+1 outputs. _________________ Jan

I believe he did mean an MM5837 from a Buchla SOU clone project by member vtl5c3:

Ah ok, that clears it up then, thanks!
Was just wondering BTW what the chip would do exactly & got confused trying to look it up ... but got that sorted out now too _________________ Jan

I cannot believe that the day has come when early digital noise is desirable...

Indeed, the very chips Korg did a revision of the Mono/Poly for because they were so completely terrible (i.e. it has an audible repeat). _________________ http://www.casia.org/modular/ |

Here comes the day a 266 is desirable for everyone.
This is not a day, this is history.

That's what digital noise are all about ?
I've understand Buchla random voltage sources to be drastically random, gently cyclic. either the noise source ? |
