[Editor's note:This came via email.]

MPEG has started an Ad Hoc Group to study the requirements of integrating music notation into MPEG.

Presently in the market there are several products that cover the area of music education (integrating multimedia), music managment in library (integrating multimedia), etc... The integration of music notation in MPEG will cover these tools adding: interoperability, porting them on i-TV and on mobiles, etc. This is the real market advange.

The WEB page of this AHG is http://www.dsi.unifi.it/~nesi/mpeg/ahg-mn-65-66.html

If you are interested in joining the this specific mailing list please let me know and I will insert you in the list. Mailto: nesi@dsi.unifi.it
Please do that ASAP since the discussion list with MPEG is becoming hot.

The integration of music notation with MPEG will open the way for a large number of new markets, for instance the

-- multimedia electronic lecterns,

-- music education via i-TV,

-- music notation games for kits,

-- multimedia content on piano keyboards, mobiles, PDAs,

-- etc.

and could consolidate the present market for music sheet production.

cheers,
paolo
