Hello..i just upgraded and realized that the editor is crashing now when i set the laptop to sleep ( mac version)

I wonder if there are any benefits form OS1,62..
is the editor running faster on intel machines?
or any other improvements?

If you are on a mac I see no reason to upgrade to the new OS. It's a buggy piece of work, and Clavia does not treat their modular customers with any dignity or respect.

I use 1.62 on osx and it quit sucks! Many patches i save in de g2 are got corrupted and the editor uses a ridicules amount of cpu.

I did not upgrade so I can't tell you what to do.

Clavia support is the worst.

I hope you hear this Clavia...

I'm sticking with 1.4.
If it is not broken why fix it.

The best advice you can give anyone to electronics "If it's not broken why fix it", but there is always the coolness of exploring the unknown. Unfortunately Clavia doesn't care about it's customers.

I will say this again, Clavia could care less about it's customers.

I know this because I own a small business selling equipment. If there is any problem with one of my products I get on it ASAP. I am a small business of two people, unlike Clavia which is a business of much more.

There is really no excuse for Clavia not fixing these problems. They have the manpower, instead they just focus on what makes them money.

In the end, I hope Clavia fails because they don't care about their customers.

1.62 makes it work under Vista (solving a driver issue), I'm not having any problems with 1.62 sofar, not under Vista and not under XP, using it daily. But indeed when things work for you with 1.4 there is no need to upgrade.

When I tried 1.62 with XP, what I found is that if I tried loading many patches (by spinning the selection wheel and hitting the "load patch" button), eventually I would get to a state where a patch would refuse to load. I am wondering if you could try the same experiment on your Vista system.

The problem would occur regardless of whether the editor is running, so long as the G2 is connected to the computer.

Also, I am wondering whether you are connected directly or via a USB hub.

I have engines, so nothing much to spin here, and am not using a hub ... that is not an external hub, not sure what is in the laptops.

I have 1.4 on my Powerbook G4, my home machine, (Windows XP), and on the first Mac Mini that I bought as a backup for $50 incase Clavia didn't update their drivers.

I have 1.4 on my G2, and 1.62 on my G2x, and everything works great all the time. I've had no problems. But again, I haven't seen fit to upgrade to 1.62 on my computers because it worked great, and I heard about bugs and stuff. Does that help at all?

as long nobody reports anything improoved in 1.62 its probabky not necessary to update..

actually i hoped clavia had solved some issues like the freezing of the g2 ..

are ther any people that never had freezes? i sometimens realy wonder if its hardware related and not a software issue because very few reported the phenomen that sometimes the machine freezes.. means..the display stucks where it is and you cant acces knobs anymore... or it just stops playing..total silece at the outputs..

the second seems to be patchrelated...while the first type of display freeze just happens...

anybody that never exeprianced this things?

I've had MIDI lockups on the G2 and connection problems with th editor, but these typically only happen after the G2 was on for a couple of weeks. I'm talking engines here, that may be different from the keyboard models. First thing that will go wrong is that the module lights in the editor will stop blinking (so you can't see where a sequencer is for isnstance), this can be within a couple of hours, but seems to be related to how often you edited the patch.

1.62 was made to make it possible to use Vista, nothing else should have been changed. 1.40 and 1.62 patches are interchangeable, so when 1.40 works for you there really is no reason to upgrade. Some people even claim that 1.62 corrupts patches, but I've still not seen that happen on my G2s.

Well Sven, looks like you might have a hardware problem...

I have never had the problems that you describe with my G2X (running version 1.40 OS and Editor with a Windows XP computer).

I've had this sort of thing occur, running OS 1.4, and editor 1.4. I've had it happen without using the editor, as well. I think it started to happen after an incident with a bad MIDI echo setup (I left local on Embarassed , and hadn't realised my new DAW was set to echo automatically). I fixed the echo issue, the G2x was flaky for a few weeks.

After that, I turned off memory protection, and flashed my OS with 1.4 again. It has been very good ever since then.

Unfortunately, not long after I reset my synth, one of my hard drives had a physical failure, and I lost all the patches I had backed up. Rolling Eyes Still not forgiven myself for that one.

I think I may have had one crash since then; I was surfing the patch archive, and accidentally tried to load a performance before the previous load operation had completed. My G2x froze, and I think the editor may have also (can't clearly remember). I just restarted both, and it was fine. This could just be due to my praying for death PIV struggling with the multitasking I throw at it.

I don't think my story will help you very much, but hey, sharing is caring, or something.

Cheers,

Oli
