Logic 7.2 Pro. |
 |
|
Hi Guys,
I am looking at getting Logic Pro 7.2 as Cubase 4 on my MacPro is causeing me no end of problems.
There doesn't seem to be a demo available to try out so I am a little worried about what problems I may get. Does anyone here use Logic Pro 7.2 on a MacPro? Are there any issues?
Cheers

What kind of 'problems' are you anticipating?
Logic 6 Pro on my old Powerbook worked flawlessly. I imagine because 7.2 is an Apple Pro product, you will have very little- if any problems. (Apart from a steep initial learning curve) _________________ ACHTUNG!

Well from what I have seen so far with audio stuff running on Intel Macs efficiency seems to be very bad, for example Cubase 4 running under OSX with a 64 buffer on my Motu 828mkii uses 90% cpu of one core with no project loaded! Under xp it uses 2%.
All NI plugins also run useing 100% more cpu than on XP.
So my main concern is cpu usage.
I have also heard rumours of it being hard to adjust for latency in hardware synths in Logic, is this true?
Cheers

There's always been issues between NI and Steinberg stuff on Mac, mainly because both of these were PC native. Although I know that NI did get a lot better (I do own, but don't use anymore, Kontakt and Reaktor). I don't know about latency to hardware though, although I never had a problem with PPC.
I imagine Logic works great?- PM Elektro80. He's the logic king around here _________________ ACHTUNG!

On the Intel macs, all the nuts and bolts ( for your DAW software ) gotta be UB versions. You really don´t´ want to see Rosetta involved.
Is the CSX4 completely intel savvy? Are all the plugins and shit UB?
AFAICS, Logic Pro ( latest build ) is clean and fast on intel macs. You must however make sure that you aren´t squirting any PPC/G5 only plugins into the stew. If you do.. oh oh...
I am using Lgic on only one intel box at the moment, a macbook. I have no fancy plugins installed .. pretty much the clean neat default install. It works 200% OK. Stable, fast and cuddly. I still use a dual G5 box as the main DAW though. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Yep, everything is UB. I Just don't think the developers are that good at ub stuff yet.
The Cubase problem is common amoung Intel OSX Users, very high cpu load unless you turn multi-processing off and just use a single core.
Cubase 4 is also unstable on OSX and I must admit version 4 seems to be a bit of a step back from version 3 in useablity. The main problem is 3 is not UB.
I am really interested in stable, I don't like applications that crash!
I might stick an order in for Logic and see how I go.
Thanks for your interest.

Logic Pro is awesome.
The latest version of Cubase 5 VST 32 was almost stable and it worked almost as advertised. When SX1 came out I simply gave up on the Steinberg wiz kids. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

HI,
i have been looking around the net and the rumurs seem to be that Logic Pro has ended its development cycle at version 7.
From what I can see a new audio app will be released with 10.5 which will not be based around Logic Pro and with no upgrade path from Logic Pro 7.
I am a bit worried about buying an end of life product, has anyone else heard these rumours.
Cheers

AFAIK, this is correct. There might be a maintenance release of a dot dot dot something update that will wrap up some 10.5 issues. That said, it is not unlikely that Logic has already seen some fixes for 10.5 already. Logic Pro 7 is said to be compatible with 10.5. I hope ..
AFAIK, Apple had at least decided on keeping the Logic Pro name ( before XMAS that is.. Steve might have gotten new ideas now.. but I doubt it) for its new pro audio app.
AFAIK, Logic Pro 8 is a totally rewritten Logic 7, improved engine ( including SRC etc ) and with additions from Soundtrack Pro. BTW: Soundtrack Pro is far more pro under the engine hood than what is visible in the GUI.
AFAIK, the Pro Tools killer idea is not completely unfounded. I simply wonder how much they will really add of the hilariously cool new features in the release version. Think of it as a mix of all that is good in Logic 7, all that is cool in Steinberg´s´Nuendo... tweaked for high end audio production.. also movies.. There will be some small but very important tweaks re integration with projects in Final Cut. There might be a media asset manager engine slammed into Logic 8 too. This means you can have n number of editing suites that can access shared libraries ( sounds and assets that is. ) The concept of portable projects will be improved upon too.
AFAIK, we might see the VAULT idea from Aperture show up in Logic Pro 8. A Logic Pro 8 Vault ( you can have more than one vault ) will contain absolutely everything in a project/projects. Think of this as a backup, but you can also detach one of the Vault drives and take it to another studio.
But will this actually show up in Logic Pro 8.0? I really hope so. The leaks and rumours so far are way cool. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Do you think there will be an upgrade from version 7 to version 8?
If so how much do version updates in Logic usually cost?

Logic 8?
I wonder if they will allow updates from Pro 6 to 8? I'm seriously thinking of updating now that I've got a bit more cash, but I don't want to fall into the same trap that I fell in before
any clues? _________________ ACHTUNG!

Well it's arrived, there seems to be rather a lot of manual!
I can't see a way of registering the software with Apple, how do I go about this?
Cheers

The important parts are your receipt, the dongle and your sanity. Have fun!
There is a link in there somewhere to where you register online.
You can install Logic Pro on as many machines you like. Your license is the dongle. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Welcome to the wonderful world of 'Logic'
Actually it's quite intuitive. It's worth knowing that the escape key brings up the tools. It took me an age to swap from right-clicking in cubase to touching that little button! It's also worth investing in a qwerty keyboard with all the Logic short cuts on the keys _________________ ACHTUNG!

Its looking good so far.
Very low cpu overhead compared to Cubase.
Hasn't crashed yet either which is nice.
An amazing thing is that after installation it recognised my Yamaha 01X and set it up automatically as a control surface.
Cheers
