Apple sources said the new models will have a top speed of 2.5GHz or 2.6GHz; the company is expected to offer dual-processor configurations of 2.5GHz, 2GHz, and 1.8GHz, as well as an entry-level single-processor 1.8GHz model. While other configurations may exist, those models are believed the represent the new product line.

Apple will reportedly include an ATI Radeon 9600 XT graphics card in the highest-end configuration and an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra in the other models.

A source said that the company's plans called for an announcement of the long-awaited G5 refresh on Tuesday, June 8, but stressed that announcement dates for speed bumps could easily be shifted to a later date in the week; other indicators suggested that may indeed be the case.

According to reports, Apple will continue to sell the current G5 models at a discount to clear existing inventory; the cut prices will reportedly be $1,599 for the 1.6GHz G5, $2,199 for the Dual-1.8GHz, and $2,499 for the Dual-2GHz model.

Apple is also readying new 20-inch, 23-inch, and 30-inch Cinema Displays, but it's not clear if the company will roll out the new monitors and the updated G5s simultaneously.

While there has been increased talk in Cupertino about quad G5 models, the news is not currently believed to have ties to this announcement.
