Clavia G2 Floor Model Subject description: G2 + FCB1010 = FX Bliss |

Ok, I haven't had the guts to do it just yet. I'm trying to think of ways to do it without modification to the actual G2.
That is, I've been playing bass more recently, and almost never touch the keys. But, I would like to cut down on the gear I have to carry with me. So, it seems like I could remove the G2 keybed, and replace it with a board that contains footswitches, as well as footpedals. Why didn't clavia try to tap the guitar market?
Anyway, I'm think along one of two lines:
A.) Take apart my Behringer FCB1010, and put the parts in where the keys are now. Route the MIDI, and I'm done.
B.) Create a set of switches that replace, say, an octave of keys on the nord. Then, add a footpedal that's wired into the control pedal input. All self-contained. Then I can also add a "sustain" pedal, and maybe a force-resistive patch beneath it for "aftertouch".
Anybody have a schematic of a keyboard that could replace the nord? is it a standard fatar keyboard? I could also drop in a CPLD, FPGA, or uController to act like the keyboard, with anything I put in there hidden from the nord.
Any good sources for footswitches? I really like the switch that's on my Tech21 SansAmp Bass DI. Smooth like butter, definitive switching, but I can also switch it with my little finger, since it needs such little pressure.
Any other ideas? I'm liking the DIY route, because then I don't need another editor, such as would be the case for the FCB1010. |

...i remember rob saying something about the os looking for a kbd on bootup...i'd confirm that everything (including the foot pedal input) works with the kbd removed before proceding.

Personally, I'd leave my G2 intact and just use the FCB1010 on the floor. It can merge a midi stream on its midi input, so any other octave-worth-of controllers or pressure sensitive midi thingies could be inserted there (if midified). But it won't be as cool, I concur. _________________ Spinning at ~0.0000115740740741 Hz |

It would be cool, but you're just begging for trouble. If you really like the idea so much, open up the FCB1010 and see if there is in enough room inside for a G2 engine board.
Really, I don't think this is a good idea. |
