Yeah the skew is so cool - like a waveshaper and a suboscillator in one... Cool

Yeah, nice work and looks, Zthee!
And I'll totally agree on the wonderousness of the skew function - that makes the module for me (hats off to TH!)

Thanks guys!

For the frontpanel - http://zthee.vantage.ch/frontpanelen_stor.jpg There's a picture on how the whole modular will look like when it's done..

If I get it done Wink

And the VCO-1 is driving me mad by not working. Need to dive deeper into it. Though I have to say - It's a very neat circuit!

elegant design, and a great module selection, i think you'll have a lot of fun. you may wind up wanting more LFOs, which would be easy by adding some range switches to th VCOs...

nice!

The XRVCO has LFO -switch + the PS3100 has a LFO out + the LFO module.. so I've got 4 LFOs from that. Plus I'm planning on using my Korg MS-10 for additional LFO and as a noise source.. Though I'm not really an LFO man - I'm more of a sequencer type Wink

That's why I need atleast 2 CGS sequential switches in my next modular..
It's great that I've already have that plan.. And I haven't even completed the first one yet! Shocked

That's a really nice looking front panel.

I got two VCO1's working based off the PCB art and schematic. They sound great although I wish they had a saw wave. Looks like I'll be adding a converter on a piece of perf.

With regard to the sync, yes, it's using the FSK capability of the XR chip. But just as important are these two properties:

1. The period of the reset pulse is much more narrow than the period of the dummy second (super high frequency) FSK signal , and

2. The XR chip always starts the alternate FSK signal from wherever the other leaves off. (It's phase continuous).

Put these together, and in effect the output signal is always being reset to some value close to 0. It may not be exactly 0, but it will be consistent from cycle to cycle, and is indistinguishable to the ears.

I've never seen this used before, but that's because I've never seen a chip like the XR which has switchable dual current sources.

Thomas Henry

I don't understand how the value will be close to 0 each time?
If the frequency is varying of the sync or the VCO, the start of the waveform won't be consistent, surely?

What about using a D-flip-flop with an asynchronous reset (like a 4013), reset by sync pulse (maybe change the NPN inverter to an emitter follower)
and SYNCO (from XR2206) to clk and D connected to +15V with the Q output going to FSKI?
So sync pulse resets FSKI selecting the fast frequency and rising edge of square wave sets FSKI to select the expo-converter.
Based on timing cap of 47nF and TR2 of 1K should give worst case 50us (21Khz) start delay.
Any thoughts?

Cheers.

The VCO-1 has a very nice pulse waveform.

Thanks!

This is how it came together when the whole system was done

Excellent job!!!!

I hope my homebrew modular (no synthtech or bridechamber panels) looks one quarter as nice as yours when I'm through. I have a feeling I may have to keep mine in a different room than my synthtech & bridechamber panel modular....
