Looking for something portable (i.e. not a wall-mount rack) to manage my patch cables. What do you guys use?

Apologies if I should not have posted this in the DIY section because I'm not really that interested in building my own (I have limited time for projects and would rather spend it building circuits Very Happy) but figured someone here would be able to recommend something.

Thanks.

I drape my cables over a cheap "X" type keyboard stand that is only expanded to its minimum extent. It's easy enough to pick up and move when I need to.

Cheers,
Adam-V

I don't know of anywhere that you can BUY one, but it's not hard to MAKE one. The trick is to get a sturdy mic stand that's tall enough if you have 6-foot cables. Scott Juskiw's is the fanciest one, detailed instructions here:

Hope this helps.

I always thought it would be really cool to take an old coat stand (pick your preferred era) and make a cable hanger out of it. Depending on the era you could use wire, wood, plaster, etc to make a comb to hold the cables.

I just use a slab of wood with slots cut in it, it is counterweighted by the oscilloscope... Sad I wish I had space for patch coat racks...

Oh wow - that IS cool
I've used the Mic-stand technique before, but not the 'triangle' approach.
I've DIY'd holders 'til now but just got a few of the Pomona holders -- though, in some ways I think they're too closely spaced (for bananas)

I made this years ago out of wood scraps and some screw-in hooks. It's still good enough.

inspired by seeing larry hendry's version at AHMW, my vision was to take a large contractors bucket, cut cable-width slots down the sides plus a mikestand-sized hole in the bottom... mount it on the stand, or flop the cables inside for transport/storage.

of course, i thought of that years ago and still haven't done it...

I always thought a tie-rack would work.
Maybe an electric one.

Only if it can be controlled by gate and CV signals!

Cheers,

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I'd seen Scott Juskiw's design and it's perfect. However, and this is going to make me sound really lame, the triangular pieces of wood is what made me hesitant to go with this one. I might still try this anyway because it does look great, but some of the other suggestions here sound like they'd work just fine for me as well, even if it's just till I feel I have the time to build something nicer myself.

When I take the synth out, I have a couple Pamona cable 'combs' that I attach to the edge of the table where I'm playing with small c-clamps. Works fine and doesn't get any cheaper.
