Yup... I'm back babay! For now at least... had to finish up a veritable 'buttload' of pieces and work was crazy at the same time. As a lurker now, this board is so active, that by the time I could get to the end of a thread it was moot!
Congrats to you guys for making such a scene!
BTW, if anyone's interested there's an article at beepSNORT explaining my decision to release these albums for free rather than uh... continue to delay putting them out on CDR or real CD or Mp3ria.com.

Good article Jeff...

Yeah. I've been there since the bygone days of LPs & cassettes and it has always had people scratching theirs heads and wrinkling their brows. For me, when I compare the money I've made to the impact my music has had on people, it's no contest.
I actually think that giving it away is really a good marketing strategy if you're going after 'fame and fortune.' But that can be argued (and has been) forever. Bottom line for me is that I can reach 2500+ people/month on the net. The only thing that beats that is radio airplay - but even then it's hit & miss as to when you're coming up on the playlist.
I write the music to write the music. But I sure want people to hear it and hopefully get something out of it. Otherwise, what's the point?
Your work is already recognized & will continue to be. Hopefully the world will come around and start showing real appreciation for good art. But regardless, this is the way to get to people's ears & heads.
Ok, gotta go check those albums out _________________ Que la musique sonne - Edgard Varese

I've listened to the Espace album. Very nice. Great ambient music. Relaxing and interesting at the same time. Very beautiful. AgnusDeiWave is especially nice.
I read the blog article about making the music available for free. I tend to agree with you. Very few of us are going to make money doing music. We do it for the joy of creating it. That joy is magnified when other people listen to it. Putting it out there for free seems to make sense to me.
Reserving rights also seems important. If we put out music for people to listen to for free, there is nothing wrong with reserving our rights at the same time. I would get very concerned if your music was used for commercial purposes without your permission. Posting the music for download does not imply the granting of rights for commercial use or distribution.
Selling CDs isn't inconsistent with giving away online mp3 versions of your music. Some people for one reason or anther don't download. Also, the mp3 fidelity can be of concern.
Anyway, thanks for deciding to make this music available. I really like it. I might not have ever heard this otherwise. _________________ --Howard

Brilliant article on your page Jeff. and 3 albums! Good stuff.
edit: this is nit picking I guess, but please consider it for future reference - I really like that you have album artwork in the same folders as the songs (neat pictures too), but I'd recommend reducing image sizes to 800X600 pixels maximum (a bit smaller would be even better for people using that monitor resolution). A great peice of artwork loses the full effect when you can't see all of it at once. |

Thanks Z! Yeah, I thought about what you were talking about but I ended up deciding that if somebody actually wanted top print out the covers, they're the right size for 360 DPI (at least they're the size that the Mixonic group were asking for).

touche! I didn't think of that one, that is sound logic and I don't blame you for leaving them in that format. |
