I am into it deep and enjoying it very much so far, again it leaves me overwhelmed by the limitlessness of my current setup, but this time it's a good feeling. I could use some points of view and strategies to guide me with my jitterbugs!

So does anybody in here have experience with 'jitter', something to say about it, or feel like sharing ideas? Please do!

Smile

I mut admit whenever I look at it I think "Jesus I cannot be arsed with that!"

Ever thought of OpenGL and C, much easier!

It isn't as steep a learning curve, if you know your way around the max environment. For me, difficult subjects are related to movie, color and 3d theory, since I haven't worked with anything like that on a serious level.

I still enjoy learning jitter, because it comes with the same proper documentation as the rest of the max/msp bundle and it gave me quick and pleasing results and examples to play with.
And I want to know how to bridge everything to everything in my setup and that currently includes Live! One of the biggest problems I have is making time to do tutorials.

Well for 3d theory you need some background in vector algebra and matrixes.

You could start here:

http://chortle.ccsu.edu/VectorLessons/vectorIndex.html

Also the OpenGL programming guide is available here with very useful info in it:

http://www710.univ-lyon1.fr/~jciehl/Public/OpenGL_PG/index.html

You need to get your head around the different matrixes used, chapter 4 will help you with this.

Colour is also covered in chapter 5, although I am not sure what you would like to know here.

Also what would you like to know about the movie stuff?

Cheers

Andy

For my current project I am working with infrared light. I need to get to ways to filter out all other light within jitter, which should be the equivalent of a highpass filter (correct me if I'm wrong).
I am trying to get my head around the operators in jitter and data formats for video matrices. In max/msp I am used to think in Hz, midi, dB's, etcetera; in jitter I'd have to find a way to distinguish various data types the way I'm used to in max/msp.

It's no problem at all I just need to keep reading, thank you so much for the links, those will help me an awful lot! Smile

I think you should get rid of the visible light in the optical domain - as I see no way IR would be distinguishable from visible light once it's turned into bits.

Good point!

There is already a daylight filter in the webcam and it looks alright. I'll first do the blob tests and see if any extra filtering is necessary.

I noticed this one today as well:

Looks useful.

I saw that one and checked the examples.. really good stuff! Today we tested the IR leds and the camera really picked it up very well! I'll try and post some screenshots! Everything is looking good, so far.

The next couple of days will be construction and DIY without the laptop and then I'll dive back into jitter and 'blobs'...

...thansk for all the interest and replies, this helps me a lot!

While we are on the subject... we did some initial testing of the principle, but I think something's wrong with the camera!

Look at these two pictures,

These are two frames from our test recording, the camera seems to have an auto-brightness function? Can somebody shed some light Very Happy on my problem..

Thanks again.

Logitech C200 webcam. I read the CCD could've been damaged through exposure, I hope that is a wild fairytale!

Looks like brightness and white level are automatic on that camera.

Any suggestions for a cheap webcam with manual focus and no auto brightness/white levels?
