Hi everyone,

I had an idea for a simple device that I'd like to build, and I was hoping for some help figuring it out.

I'd like to make a "sequencer" that is really just a rate-variable sequence of on/off switches. I'd like to, say, plug 12 radios into it and have it cycle through the inputs.

I don't imagine this would be too difficult, but I was wondering if there was a same/similar kind of thing that I could just copy. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Also, just to clarify: I want a different input for each step in the sequence, so it's not at all like a traditional sequencer.

ah you want a Sequential switch, there should be some circuits floating around for that. Although most are probably just for CV's but it's possible.
If you can't find anything I might be able to draw somethign up. Is it just for standard audio signals ?

Yes! That's exactly right. And yes, just standard audio inputs. I'd like each step to have a separate level pot to control volume. Thanks--any help is greatly appreciated

This is an inelegant solution, but does anyone see any problems with it?:

One could build the "4017 Baby Sequencer" and use the LEDs to make vactrols that switch the audio signals on and off.

That might not even be such a bad idea, if you can get the vactrol part working well enough. I've seen different setups for that
some just use it in series with the audio followed by a resistor to ground so it works as an attenuator, but I've also seen it used the
other way around where the vactrol shorts the audio to GND when turned on. so it works in reverse.

Normally I would say use an analog mux (CD4051/CD4067) however when you switch audio signals on/off abruptly you will most
likely get some clicking sound, it might not be a lot but could be annoying, especially at higher speeds.
Vactrols however have somewhat of a slow repsonse time so it will kind of fade the sound which might prevent those clicks.
The maximum sequencing speed will be lower though.
