Technology and science are two hobbies of mine, both of which fascinate me immensely.
Especially when we travel in the campervan, I have time to delve deeper and sometimes even conduct a little experiment.
Recently, I was reading about Albert Einstein and everything he accomplished in his life. It's incredible what he accomplished without the help of computers.
This time, I looked at his theory of relativity, and specifically time dilation:

Time passes more slowly for a moving observer compared to a stationary observer.

I thought that would be a fun experiment to recreate. After all, we're traveling, making hours-long drives, and have time to do this.
For the experiment above, you need a stationary timekeeper and a timekeeper that travels with the campervan.
I chose Google as the fixed, stationary timekeeper, and the stopwatch app on my phone as the traveling timekeeper.
Google was a logical choice because it accurately calculates the duration of the drive before it begins.
I chose a section of the Route Soleil (France), to drive along a longer stretch of road, allowing me to maintain a fairly constant speed without roundabouts.
I chose a section that Google Maps indicated would take me 2 hours and 13 minutes.
Then I started the stopwatch and started driving.
But to my surprise Google Maps indicated exactly 0 minutes when I arrived, while my stopwatch read 2 hours and 32 minutes.
In other words, time in the campervan passes FASTER (my stopwatch) than a stationary observer (Google Maps).
I find that quite remarkable…
