Subject description: Tiger compatibility issues

Hi folks,
since i'm so bored by too many problems with my M-Audio Firewire 410 and Tiger, i'm planning to replace this interface with another one but I need suggestion before doing another purchase.

I'm using latest m-audio drivers, for my interface, but problems stills... the audio card switchs its sample frequency automatically but, when I use high rates (96k or whatever other sample rate using over 16bit) it goes mad... it stops to respond and don't accept any incoming signal.. and all of that is very boring.

Since I don't need something huge, like an RME Fireface 800, I want to know if a reliable audio card that really have all claimed features working with Tiger.

Thank you,
Luca

Actually, I have recently started to get similar problems with my 410.

You are aware that the 410 is prone to overheating if packed together with other gear that runs hot? When overheating it will crash and go bonkers. Then finally it will lose the connection to the host computer.

A friend of mine has one FW 410 which has been misbehaving for years. He asked me over to have a look at it.

E80: "Where is it?"
Friend: "On the desktop!"
E80 " I am only seeing a stack of papers, a piece of reindeerfur, lotsa cables and shit.. but no 410."
Friend: "Oh, right.. it`s under all that, together with a LACIE FW drive."

The shit was running really hot.

Shocked

mmm I have soundflower installed but I've stopped to use it since I've started to get those problems. The audio card is positioned alone and away from heat sources.

But I do think the current 410 drivers are flaky.

You have tried to uninstall the driver, trhen restart the mac and install again?

The M-Audio drivers aren´t too happy about being used as "updaters". You have to get rid of the old one before you install a newer driver.

You can just as well uninstall the driver, then run something like Main Menu ( versiontracker.com ) in order to get rid of cache files and stuff ( and do check that those maintenance scripts are being run when they should - or run the lot from Main Menu ) . Then restart the Mac and reinstall the latest driver.
