Just found out about this one: ctrl-alt-apple-eject (you'll want to save your work before trying it though.)

Posting like this is really irresponsible: I haven't said what it does. But that is the point: who *thinks* up these things?

I can imagine librarians will see this one as a secret weapon for those sketchy beaver surfing sessions.

In Sweden, I hear state employees are being neutered.

Here's my favorite: Control-Option-Command-8.

Particularly fun to try on unsuspecting coworkers and bandmates when they aren't looking.

Not quite a shortcut.. but still.. many Apple apps have bundled "language files"... try a "command"+"I" on say the Quicktime player app..
Check out the language selection window...

Erm. That would be the Apple, er...geniuses. Nowhere near the ctrl+alt+delete "for the sake of security", at least.

I've been wanting to ask this for some time - what is the deal with "svenskeknappen" (translated: "The Swedish button", a norwegian nickname for a computer's reset button)? Why is it thus called Question

/Stefan

A challenge: Please google "svenskeknappen". Most references will be to norwegian webpages.
Anyways, I have simply no idea about why either "ctrl alt delte" and / or system reset ( hardware ) have been "renamed". There is one old story though from one of the computer rooms at the university in Oslo ( http://www.uio.no ) that might explain it... but it is hard to know if the story is true. This would probably be the in the early 80s.
Anyways, a swedish student would always scream " jäklare" or something of the sort.. and then do a system reset. That way absolutely every student knew within hours how to reset a computer.. Use the swedish button..! Very Happy

OK... I googled as you said and one hit was a "swede-joke": "How does a swede end a program? He uses the reset button!". My impression is that it is a bit unclear... like "OK".

Funny, just today a friend's powerbook died, but he knew a key combo that allowed it to boot up as a target firewire drive.

Other neato combo's for macheads:
