Pardon my ignorance but I'm a Nord Newbie and I'm having the *hardest* time determining which Nord product is right for me. I can't really find any "clear cut" comparisons between them all. Can anyone help/direct me?

Thanks!!!

welcome

I'm pretty sure I recently read some article explaining the differences ... maybe in an online SOS article ... can't recall, sorry ...

Thanks, Blue Hell! There's not quite a comparison that I can find there but definitely some in-depth reviews of each keyboard that steer me a *little* better in a defined direction.... Confused

Cheers...

I did a quick search there too yesterday and couldn't find it either ... yet 'm sure I saw it somewhere ... not sure it was SOS though.

Thanks for your help Blue. I'll keep looking - I also have a call into the North American rep. for more info....

Meanwhile ... what do you want to use the synth for? I mean what sort of music, or what way to use it, stuff like that. Maybe that would open a back door or something ...

I suppose that's a more difficult question than it should be. I'm looking for it to do everything! Wink

But primarily, this would be a live keyboard rig that has a great piano, B3 organ, fat rhodes, synths, horns, strings, etc.

Samples would be nice but not essential...

Creating a Baba O'Riley-type arpeggiator would be nice but not essential...

Well, take them all...

Electro3 then!

No Electro3...

That can only be done by the NordLead2X, all others don't have an Arpeggiator...

Well, how about the keyboard feeling?
More instruments in the same Program?

Thanks for your help, Wout! I need to have at least semi-weighted keys. And more instruments in the same program isn't really essential. I'd rather have great *single* patches instead of mucking around with layers.

I suppose I should mention that the other keyboard I'm planning on using live is a controller connected to a laptop with Reason. That way I should be able to pull up plenty of additional "unique" patches on that board (samples, particular patches for cover songs, any loops, etc.)

The Nord product would be replacing a Yamaha S80 - which I love but has seen so much "road" that the lists of issues with it has grown a bit extensive (iffy mod wheel, mucky keys, etc)

Also - would the Electro3 cover horns and synths as well as just piano and organ?

The Electro 3 can handle everything in the Nord Sample Library as well as the Nord Piano Library.

I doubt it has enough memory to load everything in these libraries at once, but you can pick what you want.

Thanks for the tip, Ark! I'll take a look and see that those libraries fit my needs.

Does the Electro 3 have some touch sensitivity to it? Are the keys weighted at all?

I don't actually have one, so I don't know. However, the Nord website describes the Electro 3 keys as "semi-weighted" and to be at all useful for piano samples, it would have to have velocity sensitivity. The manual also suggests that the keyboard is sensitive to release velocity, but I do not know whether release velocity is actually used for anything during sample playback.

How'd your search work out? I have the Stage Compact, and I love it. I find I can get decent strings and synth brass with it, plus it's a decent midi controller... I love the simplicity of the Extern section.

I ended up getting the Electro 3 and it's been great so far. The EP's, pianos and organs are just phenom!

I agree, mine blows me away everytime I turn it on. I have a Traynor k4 amp and the tube overdrive makes the B3 unbelievable.

Glad you're digging the Electro 3. I think they're great, but I found for what I needed, I had to get the extra functionality of the Stage.

I gotta get new amps soon... maybe I'll rock a K4... Hmmm....
