Anyone have any pointers to documentation or software that uses Loris? I've been playing around a tiny bit with the Python interface, but I don't think I understand it well enough to get decent quality from it. Specifically, I want to morph between sounds like a shotgun blast and an animal growl. But when I analyze and resynthesize those sounds with Loris, what I get out the other end sounds awful. Maybe some information about FFT synthesis in general would help me? |

I'd like to check it out, but I run XP. It sounds interesting though. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

I do too. If you install python (I recommend ActivePython, it's free and very good) you can use it on XP without having to recompile anything. I'm surprised that there isn't a GUI of some kind included, though... |

I've never used Loris. I've read about it though, and although it seems to have some real neato functionality, it may not be immediately clear what it actually does.
Perhaps reading about the "Phase Vocoder" may help. I'm sure you'll eventually be able to do a morph yourself with just the FFT. I often like to do such things myself on a lower level to gain more understanding and control. That can sometimes make it easier to understand a possibly non obvious abstraction by someone else, and it may help in getting the best out of those abstract tools later. Speaking as a "curious programmer" here

I have no first hand experience with Loris, but I was reading through the Csound documentation earlier today and noticed that the VST Csound release has a form of Loris/Python integration. _________________ --Howard
