What is Thereminvox.com?
Thereminvox.com covers news and issues about the theremin and other theremin-related musical instruments. More in general, the goal of Thereminvox.com is to investigate the role of technology as a tool for expressive manifestations and the relations between art, technology and the human body.
P.S.
It's an Italian website. Isn't it cool

Listen to this one:
| Quote: | Moog: If a composer were to write a piece for the theremin today, would you have any advice to give him?
Rockmore: Yes. The theremin is a melodic instrument. Modern composers are shying away from melody, frankly because I don't think they know how to write really beautiful melody. Mozart could write thousands of pieces and still find a new melody. Now they make sound effects and noises when they write. |

Lydia Kavina official website.
Lydia is one of the few professional thereminists in the world and a master teacher on this instrument. She also is a composer and has premiered her own works and those of others throughout Russia, the USA, Europe and Asia. _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

I certainly think she has a point. I'll bet that there will be a revival of melodic and harmonic writing as a reaction to the sound effects and noise of todays music. That said, I think she doesn't get that when one is sculpting sound effects over time, the result is melody. How several are layered creates harmony. Thinking of melody as a sequence of monophonic notes is a rather simplified view of things.
Clara was a fantastic musician, though. To play as well as she could on a Theremin is nothing short of amazing. |
