Anyone?

I recently got a Synare 3 for $100; a fair price i think. I had to remove a faulty user-mod to get it working again, but it sounds great now.

But I was thinking of adding a trigger input, and I'd like to take a look at the schematic.

Thanks

I just bought a copy of the service manual/schematic. If anyone else needs this, let me know...

Yes please. I could use them. I collect all sorts of info regarding analog drums, as i'm currently designing my own 19" drum rack.

I must admit, i don't need it, but it would be awesome to check out. Isn't the Synare 3 what Flipper used? I think I read that somewhere.

Hey Eric!

I've also got a Synare 3 that needs some work--the noise generator is weak-sounding. Looked all over but never could find a schematic for it. I'd love to get a copy if it's not a lot of trouble for you. Or maybe I have some documentation you might want in trade? Let me know.

Regards,
Joe

If you scan them, I'd love to see! I've wanted Synares for years, but have never found a deal for them I could afford. I do have a Drumfire though, and pics of the Synare 3 PCB got me wondering about how similar they might be. I never tire of analog drums! Thanks for your efforts

OK, I finaly got the owners and service manuals in the mail. The documents actually include schematics and notes on both the Synare 3 and the Synare 3X, which are apparently fairly different.

The way the service manual is layed out is kind of unusual in that it seperates the schematics for individual parts of the circuit over many pages... so it will take a little time to scan in all the pages... also I don't own a scanner, so I'll have to use one at work...

In other words, it's gonna take a little more time to post/distribute this info. I'll post here again after I make the scans, and then maybe who ever wants them can just give me their e-mail and I'll send you the scans.

I can post also, but it might be too big a file to post the whole thing... I don't really know because I've never tried to post anything like this on a forum before...

Or maybe, if someone has a web site, they could upload the file and make it available to who ever would want it.

Sorry for the delay... but it took a really long time to get to me, and I wasn't expecting it to be more than just a one page schematic. But I'll get it out before long...

Yeah, I know what you mean... I've always wanted a Synare or Syndrum-- the two original 70s synth drums-- but by the time I got around to shopping for them, they'd already risen in price to a point that I thought was unreasonable. The Synare in particular was used all over recordings by many post-punk and new-wave type bands (Joy Division, Devo, etc) as well as many funk groups (George Clinton, Funkadelic, et al) and disco producers (maybe the more expensive Syndrum was more typical in disco music).

When I first noticed them, they'd routinely sell for around $100, which was OK; But then, all of a sudden--maybe a year and a half ago-- they started selling for more like $300-$500.

I figured the only way I'd be able to get one would be to buy a broken one--for $100 or less-- and fix it-- which is what I did. But I'd now like to do a couple mods (like add a trigger input), so I wanted to see the schematic first.

I like the Drumfire too, but it's not quite as cool, IMO, as the Synare. But both are better, IMO, than the more common 80s Simmons and Techstars.

I think the Syndrum might be the best... it seems to be the most versatile and full featured... but I kind of prefer the construction of the Synare (with the synth and drum controller all in one--instead of seperated). There are also a couple other manufacturers that made analog synth drums more like the Synare-- Multivox, for one; I'm sure these are pretty cool too... and might possibly be bought at a more reasonable price if you can find one.

here it is for anyone interested , i got one of these synare 3 and i also built a ds-7 but the synare kills off the sounds from the ds-7, its seriously worth cloning and im sure many people would be making there ds-7's redundant after hearing one of these , i wonder if all the parts are still available ? i see that it needs 4 ca3080 , they can be found so can the rest of the parts ?

Thanks very much!

I miss seeing an overall view of the circuit, but this format is really educational and interesting.

Thanks Vibesmaster for making it available!

I hope to return the favor someday!

Just joined and First Post

I just picked up the same Synare Manual from Ebay.
Actually the guy had to resend it because the first one never made it.
That is a sign of a good ebay seller.

Anyways, the Synare 3 has a design issue with the output.
The output is fed directly from a CA 3080.
This should be buffered either with a xistor, or opamp.

I picked up a PCB ( No case , etc ) a while ago.
The PCB was in terrible shape.
All the pots were removed and one of the 3080's was removed.
All the xistors and many components were flattened.
I plan on restoring the PCB and enclosing it in a rack .
I also plan to modify the input so I can trigger it from a sequencer as well as a head.

I'd be interested on any mods or rework that others have done on the Synare 3.
I plan to take pics and post the whole restoration on the web.

Thanks

FYI
see what this guy made with the synare: he added 2CV in and a piezzo trigger:
http://pics.studiorepair.de/misc/Synare_S3X/index.html

BTW he stated that one half of the schematics is wrong and the other apparently not there?!

Nice link! I love guts!

Did you look at his Coron DS-7? It has 2 more transistors than the DS-7 clone.

The link to the manual/schematics is not working anymore, does anyone
still have those ? I'd apreciate it.

Cheers,

Rudi
