Here is a new tune I've put together. It would be nice
to hear what you people think of it.

All critique is of interest.

Cheers

Larry, thanks for joining the forum here, and for posting. Please post a given message in only one forum. I removed your post in the News and Reviews forums. No big deal, several people have done that when they first joined here.

Your tune is not in a style I feel qualified to criticize. It sounds like dance or hip hop to me. I generally don't care for these genres, but I'm trying to learn more about them so as to appreciate them better. I figure if you don't appreciate an entire genre of music, you probably have more to learn about it. Hell, at one time, I didn't like Mozart; I'm glad that's behind me.

You say it is a remix. Could you explain what you mean? I've heard the term used when people take a recording, extract parts from it, and add new stuff. Is that what you did? Maybe I don't know what the term means.

Thanks for the reply.

The tune i've created here is a remake of a song originally performed
by a artist called Peaches, which has been receiving a lot of
good press in trendy magazines (the face, dazed and confused, etc).

The term remix refers to taking original material recorded by an existing artist and make something new of it, put it in another context if you will.

The thing I've done here is that i have extracted pieces from the original acapella (only the vocals used in the songs) and added drums, synths
cool sounds and so on. All the playing, programming, sequencing, mixing etc is done by me, everything except the vocals which I've "borrowed".

The song is quite "light" electronic music, and is to be viewed as pop song
in the same vein as madonna or something similar.

What I'm looking for is some feedback on the quality of the song regarding
it's grooviness or if it's "catchy" enough.

Once again thanks for the reply.

Cheers

This one reminded me of a mix of 60s J´teaime style songs and Luka by .. whatshername. It´s a nice one and there seems to be nothing wrong here at all. Another matter is the groove. In the genre it probably belongs too.. the groove is way cool.
But groove can be a lot of things. Personally I might be more in favour of the vintage ( and probably dull) groove you find in 70s jazz ( Zawinul etc ), avant garde prog like Can, Van Der Graaf, etc, some classical music and stuff like Talking Heads. The band Senser is a pretty recent one.. that song Breed is pretty groovy. But.. your mix is very OK. It sounds to me that it is pretty much the way it should sound in that genre.

Groove is also a matter of abstraction levels. Different genres and traditions takes groove into different worlds.

Thanks a lot for the reply, this is the kind of feedback I'm looking for.

The thing I'm trying do is to emulate the sound of artist like Juan Atkins and Derrick May and mix it with some some pop, punk and rock elements.
The styles may warry, put it is always gonna have a certain club feeling to it.

Once again, thanks for the feedback.

Please don't hesitate to comment om my future song posts.

Cheers
