Yeah, makes it almost mandatory to build a two in one and name it that... Laughing

JK, thanks for that - I knew about Loctite, but hadn't really thought about it in this matter. Funny thing is, the jacks seem to hold better, now that I've switched frontpanel material from 1,4mm pcb stock to 3mm alu. Go figure. But if they come loose again, I'll try loctite.

Are those bananajacks the cheap ones from futurlec? Are you having trouble with them coming loose from the panel, I mean you tighten the nuts, but after plugging and unplugging for a while, the nuts on the jacks start to come loose. I have that problem...

You need to get some star washers. Cool

To Scott:

The chef runs into the dining room and yells: "Poirot Clefs!" and then back to the kitchen on tippy-toes...

State Machine:

Thanks. That's much nicer than the "l learned to do this at a community college" look that I think of it as.

Cool Cool

I'll take a photo of the raw, freshly drilled panels. Not a pretty sight until they get a good deburring and steel wool burnish.

BTW- if you're buying good quality switches for two of these... not cheap! Might have to visit the plasma bank.

I reckon the greatest display of willpower and strength would be to build two Klees and then give them to your wife as a birthday present. Then, even though it was you who put in all that hard work, and backbreaking effort,............

They would still always be,.........

Her-klees. Shocked Rolling Eyes

My two projects side by side communicating flawlessly.
Klee needs enclosure... nice wooden cabinet so "he" can hang out with his other modular friends Smile

Just spent a pleasant afternoon working on the "almost final" mockup.

Now I can see where my graphics aren't right (lots of problems on the right side IO section, and the chicken head's indicator arc is too small).

I didn't bother to put the LEDs in. I need to make a decision on mounting. Hot glue, or get proper sleeve mounts?

And I had to abandon the radial design, I just can't fit it into the space (4U). That's a 19" rack format.

Just a few more graphic tweaks and I'll be able to transfer to a real panel, and start wiring. Progress, of a sort...

Hi Edison! It is nice!

Do you make a wood prototipe panel before the real panel? is it wood?

I think that a drop of silicone is better than glue (always you will be able to replace a LED)

It is actually cardboard. I almost did wood but decided not to, because the cardboard was faster to drill.

of course the cardboard is floppy, but I am not that worried. This is a prototype.

I just don't want to mess up a £20 aluminium panel.

E-Rex, the graphics are quite nice. Seems very tropical, very relaxed. Very Happy The extra effort in making the mock-up panel will be worth it so that everything lines up ... Good approach Wink

It's a Paul Klee print Wink

But yeah, I am really glad I did this before I started drilling a panel. There are an AWFUL lot of switches and jacks on this thing, and I wasn't sure about finger space on the front, and wiring space on the back. I don't think I can imagine doing this panel in anything less than 4U.

Anyway, thanks for the positive comments. After fixing the graphics, it's onto aluminium, and then for the wiring. I knew I'd get around to this eventually. Smile

Of course ... I should have known. I think your the first to directly connect the artist with the sequencer through panel graphics. Very cool Cool

Yes, I made mine even larger for the sake of having a clean, uncluttered, layout. I was concerned about space for my fingers also. One big mistake I made while building the prototype with Scott and the boys was my switching power supply was mounted too close to the panels edge and two of the standoffs got in the way of the rack rails. I had to pull the two standoffs to get the thing to mount Embarassed My advice to anyone building the panel is pay very close attention to where things get mounted and double and triple check your mechanical clearances between components on the panel and also with the case or rack in which it mounts.

When I wired mine, I put the wires in bundles and out of the way of switch and jack terminals. This was done for serviceability since you will eventually have to replace switches as they will get used many times. If I build another Klee, I might even do away with mechanical switches altogether and design some sort of touch sensor arrangement.

Hi, here is my cardboard prototype Very Happy Very good idea Edison! : Thanks to the cardboard I have noticed that the merge switches are too close to the gates outputs, the pattern led can down two millimeters for aesthetics, It was more easy to choose the sockets which hold the leds. And others small details.

I'm very proud Mr. Green of this design.3U. The ergonomics are very good because you have access to all the controls comfortable. (except the merge switches but I'll fix it). Maybe the cardboard is ugly but I think that the aluminum front panel will be beautiful.

Look that I don't use the rotary switch. Instead that I use three switches that give me 8 different positions. 000, 001, 010, 011, 100, 101, 110 and 111. It is good because 1) you can choose a position without pass through the others positions, 2) you think binary (good for the brain) and 3) It is cool.

The knobs that you can see in the picture are samples. The knobs will be these but in black, gray and white.

I designed it, starting from THeff's front panel.

Mr. Green
