I've rearranged and re-composed Pyrogen, the piece I had originally wrote for a trio of piano, guitar and violin, for piano trio, substituting the cello for the guitar part. The new instrumental configuration allowed for a much greater dynamic range and therefore a composition that is much more dramatic.

Pyrogen for Piano Trio

This is a piece you guys might remember... glad to get it in a form that works! Wink

I like this piece as (almost) everything I have heard from you but you'll excuse me if this one reminded me of a comment I received when I wrote an arrangement for wind instruments: the trumpet player looked at his part then told me: "you are a piano player, right?"

I am halfway thru it now. Very enjoyable and nice but how can you throw a guitar part out the window and rewrite the same for cello? I hafta get my hands on the original version. This I hafta check out in detail.

Heh... it was a lot more than a 'port' in the software sense of the term. It was more like a total rewrite. Huge sections ditched and other sections completely written anew. You'll hear the same basic big structure, although putting a guitar up against a piano is a nightmare... so the new version lets the material shine without having the piano hold back. And as you may know, nobody writes piano trios these days because the piano covers the cello! Forget about the problems of covering a guitar... Rolling Eyes

Original version for Violin, Guitar and Piano

Very nice, Jeff. I like this quite a lot. Interesting structure, and the boogie woogie ending is cool too. Cool Congratulations...

These MIDI fiddles just don't hack it for me though. I like to patch up some non-acoustic instruments and substitute them for what you intended. If you dare to mail me the MIDI file I'll take a shot relizing it for G2 and whatever like I did to one of your other your other pieces. http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-1401.html
Not like a substitute for real players, but another interesting interpretation I think. Of course this one would be a much more difficult job. The dynamics aren't to dynamic in this MIDI version.
