I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a sub-forum for posting patches built in programs like reaktor, maxmsp and plogue bidule. I know that I'd like to see what other people are doing with this stuff and also to bounce ideas around. I guess it's not so different from the G2 stuff in theory but really, aren't we more interested in the details than the theory?

I also thought it might be nice to have a forum for people to post works to be remixed and to discuss this craft.

Just a thought ::)

sounds good to me...

Some months ago I was thinking that I could like contribute with some of my many patches for various virtual synths, but then I found out that I kinda don´t work that way.. in the sense that I actually save patches like "The Man Who Japed - solo patch 1" etc.. well I don´t .. I just patch on the fly and put together the sound I supposed to use and when I use a sequencer to control the instrument the song file saves the settings.. but what I do is using the virtual synths like old non preset synths .. in essence this means I never save them.. man.. I gotta change how I work... I am still living in the dark ages..

I love to see something like this. I'm a huge Reaktor fan, however I don't build my own Reaktor instruments (no time) but I am always working on patches.

I have to admit that I am a registered owner of Reaktor 2.3 but it was such a behemoth I never used it (at that time I had a slower computer but then I moved to MacOSX and never upgraded it).
You make me want to start using it again Very Happy

Reaktor 4 is wonderful, and is large part of my sound. When I first got it I was overwhelmed and didn't use it so much, but in time I started to use it more and more. Right now I am into the Reaktor sequencers which took me a while to understand.
There was a Reaktor freebie subtractive VA called Carbon offered in a magazine about a year ago. That is a very nice Reaktor synth. Very flexible with many different sounds and textures. I wonder if there is a site for people here to download? That would be a great one for people to try and discuss.

Sure, this is great. We already have a patch forum. But nobody submits, except for the G2 stuff, but that's sorta in a special category. If Reaktor or MAX/MSP or anything else start getting big use, then that would be different too. Nothing sacred about the G2.

I could do a couple of things.

1) create a sub forum for Reaktor under Patches
2) create a sub forum for Reaktor under soft synths.

I can do the same for MAX/MSP. I wasn't aware anyone here used that.

I was kinda reluctant to creat a bunch of sub forums and then have nobody post patches or articles. But maybe it's a cart before the horse thing. I'm up for ideas.

Never heard of ploque-bidule. Question

understandable concerns.

i think just a reaktor sub-forum would be great. There don't seem to be too many max'ers. Plogue Bidule is another program where you connect objects together with little wires. It's not nearly as flexible as max or reaktor but it's easier to use and it has spectral functions which Reaktor doesn't

hey.. I just got an email from a seasoned MAX user.. for some reason setting up a Max forum is judged as risky business.. especially if the forum should later branch out into discussion of nato.
The message is: If you wanna stay alive, don´t´do it.

i am not sure what this means... Shocked
Any idea?

perhaps this is a joke about max heads? Discussions about that program tend to get heated and very technical although I don't see any probems with this crew. However, it might attract a different breed to the electro board.

by the way, nato is video processing software

That is a risk, but you can't have it both ways. Either you want to grow or you don't. I'm worry sometimes that people could desend on this site and change it drastically. But, so far the changes have been for the better and I'm willing to take the risk. Communities like this are somewhat self-regulating, and if things get nasty, we can take action as moderators or editors.

I'd hate to think that Max users are not compatible.

There may be issues about spliting the MAX community. When I started the Nord Modular forum, there were a lot of concerns expressed on the NM mailing list about this.

I'm not familiear with Max or plogue. But I'm going to google them and find out.
NI has a pretty active Reaktor forum in place, but it seems to be more about building instruments and less about music or patches.

I guess my idea was just a place to share patches but it would probably turn into a general discussion about the finer points of those programs.

And besides the Native Instruments sponsored area I haven't seen any Reaktor forums.

MAX discussions can get out of hand

some MAX users are almost evangelical

and NAtO...well those discussions just get plain weird..

i was on the NAtO mailing list until my brain started to go soft just reading through the bizarre threads...

example

"nn zm!lz at dze rout!n.
ma! b __.. uel nvr m9nd.

d!d ! menz!on _.. uel nvr m9nd.
l!ztn shou m! ur genez.
! uant 2 tekn!kl! zuport dzm.

nn. dze futur ov d!g!tl enterta!nmnt."

or

"
- - - cycling74 wonderz uat nn u!l do nekst.

prezur. releasz. prezur. releasz. prezur. releasz.
repeat unt!l lern!ng = l!m!td b! dze amount left 2 b lernd

"

but i assume that here, the discussion will be more stright-forward and instructive

and will not devolve into who can 'out-geek' the next guy

Well.. from what I have heard.. if you say something "wrong" on the internet about this softwrae.. and if you actually have a license to the software.. they will first harass you, then take away your license.. then kill your children..

I was on the microsound list for a while before joining up here. It was a similar vibe. That's one of the reasons I like it here so much. There don't seem to be any posters with something to prove. Everyone's amiable and just interested in chatting rather than showing off their huuuge intellect (wink wink)

hmm...I got a chance to see Joshua Kit Clayton demo max and talk a little afterwards. He was very nice, very knowledgeable (being one of the programmers) and not at all pretentious. I bet there are a lot of people on that list who'd like another place to go and ask questions or post ideas without getting slammed. Although I've never been on that list so I can't really say what it's like.
