Nord Lead 1 OS upgrade?? |
 |
|
Hi everyone
I've recently purchased a Nord Lead 1 for a great deal, however I've noticed two problems so far. First, I cannot access the drum kit sounds on it. I can get to patch 99 but cannot go any further, which I assume may have something to do with the fact that it is only a version 1.6. I can't even get to the L banks, which supposedly have the original factory settings...
First off, how can I upgrade to version 2.0??? I cannot find ANY information online, and I want to do this as I'm ordering a PCMCIA card for it next week.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Maybe yours still has the ability to perform the operation, but I'm not optimistic. I would try Clavia Support, but mail directly using the 'feedback' line. Ask if they still have some updates left over... Quote: | I cannot find ANY information online, and I want to do this as I'm ordering a PCMCIA card for it next week. | Is your synth expanded? Otherwise there is no possibility to insert the PCMCIA card, because the cardholder comes with the expansion... There were some at Clavia lately.
BTW the last OS version to the NordLead (1) was V2.3.
I keep my fingers crossed for a happy ending

Thanks for writing back, Wout!
I suppose the synth is expanded, since it comes with the cardholder. I can order a PCMCIA card, but I wanted to make sure that it would work with the OS. After messing with it a little more, I realized that the problem is not that I can't access the drum kit performances, it's that I can't access any performances AT ALL!. I opened the unit and everything looked fine, so I hoped that maybe upgrading the OS would fix this. My only other idea would be to reinstall the performances via SYSEX, but shamefully enough I do not know how to do this.
I suppose if I can't use the performances, I'll survive without them, but I'd like to be able to use them, as it would make my life a lot easier live. |

I think your synth is broken. Performances are only in ROM. To save or upload a Performance you'll need a PCMCIA card... You can't restore it by updating.
At the other hand... Maybe this version doesn't have Performance? Is there a button marked Performance?

There is, Wout. What I am hoping for is that maybe once I get the card, I will be able to save performances. If I lose the factory performances, well, it sucks, but as long as I can create my own I can live with that... |

I can alway provide the files for you, in Midi, so you can upload these to your card, but I should ask Clavia first if the cards can be used.
Also, to save a Performance you have to be in Performance mode and you can't check this. I hope you don't payed to much for this machine...
I would write to Tomas Johanson directly in the 'feedback' box:

Nope, just $400. I hate to send it back for a refund, but maybe I should. I just love the way it sounds, and the way it was built. I recently went through a Nord Lead 3, which I am now selling because I prefer the build quality of the first Nord AND sound quality over it.
I will e-mail him and let you know! |

I even read somewhere @ the forum that the latest version is 2.7.
I am curious what these o.s. upgrades where, probably minor upgrades. |

Hi,
My nord rack has 2.5/2.05, and I believe there is a 2.7/2.07. From what I have read (I think it was from a distributor's site), all the 2.x/2.0x OS versions had the same feature set, and the only differences are bug fixes.
It seems that OS 2.x and 2.0x are really the same. The chips have 2.x written on their labels, and the 2 digit display shows 2.x predictably, but I believe distributors (and Clavia?) were selling these as 2.0x.
@metanoiastudios Did you manage to resolve this one? Did you also find out if Clavia will provide OS updates?
If you or anyone else is pressed for ROMs to be burnt (providing Clavia permits) then I am willing to do this for the cost of a chip + postage. I would prefer to do this from a Clavia binary or hex file though, rather than pulling my own chips. _________________ Good good study, day day up! |
