 | Amy X Neuburg We are proud to announce that Amy X Neuburg will be a featured contributing artist at electro-music 2005[TM] to be held in Philadelphia, June 3 - 5 (see here). Amy is a brilliant star in the heavens of electro-music.
Tim Thompson, a member of the electro-music.com forums (TJT), said, "Great/catchy/accessible/deep composition, stunning vocals, terrific use of technology (but all serving the music). A 1-woman show, complex compositions are constructed completely live (she loops/layers her voice and plays/triggers things with drum pads)." Tim is sometimes prone to understatement.
Amy X Neuburg is a classically trained vocalist (Oberlin Conservatory and Mills College), a composer, an electronic musician, a poet, and an entertainer. Her music covers a tremendous range of styles, from medieval religious chant through Kurt Weil cabaret singing, pop, rock, avant garde, sound text poetry, opera, African tribal singing, and electronic ambient. Her music is very experimental, but always under total control. The result is, like Tim said, accessible. She is satirical, profound, humorous and sexy too. Oh yes, Amy's voice is magnificent, a full-range masterfully controlled musical instrument.
Her CD Residue gets my vote for best CD of 2004. It's very difficult to describe Amy's music. In no special order I think of Bob Dylan, Cyndi Lauper, John Lennon, Renee Flemming, Robert Ashley, and Laurie Anderson, but with electronic music like nobody else. The songs on Residue combine the most mundane every-day aspects of life, like brushing your teeth, with the most profound, like loosing your mind or your lover. Residue is available at the electro-music.com store, here http://electro-music.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=47
Amy will be giving a talk during one of the daily sessions at the event, and she'll will perform at one of the evening concerts which will open to the public. We're planning many jam sessions throughout the three days of the event. Who knows what might happen? The final preliminary schedule will be released in mid-March.
If you haven't done so already, start doing whatever you have to do to come to electro-music 2005 in Philly on June 3 - 5. You don't want to miss this - it's going to be something else. Order your tickets before they sell out, http://electro-music.com/catalog/forums.html?cPath=13
