Syncing MD, MFC-42, G2 and Live? |
 |
|
Hi,
I have an Elektron Machinedrum, an Akai MFC-42 filter, a Clavia G2 and Ableton Live 4. I'd like the four of these sync to the Machinedrums midi clock. But I can't figure out how to connect them and still be able to sequence e.g the G2 from Live. If I make a midi chain like the MD-->MFC-->G2-->Live then I loose the midi in of the G2 and can't have it controlled by Live. What am I overseeing? I'd appreciate any help!
By the way I'm using a Midisport 4x4 w/ 4 ins/outs.
Cheers,

Midisport A <-> G2
B <-> MFC42
C <-> MD
D <-> open
USB/Serial <-> Live
Give each it's own port, that's less bandwidth on a midi channel, and less latency. Then, through Live's routing, broadcast MD -> G2, MD -> MFC, and set Live to sync to the MD (choose midiport C in this example). You have to use Live's routing, because the Midisport only does routing in stand-alone mode. To route, just create a dummy MIDI track, with input from the MD, and output to the G2, etc. I don't know of another way to have Live broadcast MIDI clock or Timecode automatically to all MIDI I/O ports without Live being the master. I'll have to try it & see though. |

Thanks JKSuperstar!
Never thought of using Live as a thru port

I don't understand why all MIDI USB interfaces ditch the routing feature once they are connected to a PC. I think the router should always be active, standalone mode or not. |

That seems like a handy option to have! _________________ Electronic Music Tutorials Designed for Learning |

I've done some re-patching...
Live doesn't seem to pass on the midi clock thru a channel like that. I've decided to patch it in a way that I cannot control the G2 from my sequencer (for now). All that editability (is that a word?) makes me improductive anyways...
Maybe I'll spring for a midimerger or interface with patchbay...
Thanks for now!
