I came across it by doing an image search for 2mm banana plug/connector, so maybe you can find something useful doing that.

How easy is it to insert the connectors straight ? It might benefit from some spacer boards in between for which you could use another PCB.
Since PCBs are rather cheap to produce you could design some seperate ones for this with slightly larger holes and without any pads/through
hole plating. Those should last forever. Just one board in between (so 3 PCBs in total) might already be enough. Or you could keep it a bit more
DIY and use wood or plastic and drill some holes in it.

Using connectors to make it easy to replace the boards sounds like a good idea.

I see they're available for 2mm.
Work fine, just a little solder time.

yes, tougher than pcb traces and they hold the plugs vertically as well as typical sockets.

2mm eyelets are available inexpensively in the crafts world. EG:

I bought 100 2mm x 3mm ones from Amazon very cheap. Got them yestewrdayl. They fit the 2.5mm bananas fine, so I'll see what I can do with those.

There are also 2mm x 5mm eyelets I want to try. I see no reason why they won't work.

I have another run of boards to do soon and will do a run of 5 or so that accommodate 2mm eyelets and report back.

One more tidbit: I have a 4x 4051 MUX board working as well for this, so I have 2 solutions. Gonna use the MUX in the Lunetta project. Not sure what I will use the Putney thing for yet.
