Hello EM Nord Modular G2 list |
 |
|
Dear colleagues,
I'm a new member to the list, having recently purchased a G2X (likely from a list member here). I previously used the G1 extensively. I've been focusing on trying to replicate analogue polysynth timbres. I've appreciated the tilt filter, filter series, and other efforts to model some of the analogue magic. I've been doing work at the waveform level to try to replicate some of my favorite analogue sounds. I've been focused on testing different approaches to modeling the Roland System 100 saw-wave oscillator, which has always stood out in my mind as oddly compelling especially at low frequencies. I'll be happy to share.
I've tried to explore some of the patches in the archives here. Favorites have been:
1. Several excellent Wurlitzer 200a models: surprisingly great! I've been doing simple things like combining several models into a single patch to get the best of them in one instrument
2. One or two of the acoustic piano modules is quite good. I've still in the studying mode to figure out what the heck is making these work so well in the low and mid frequencies. They need a bit more magic in the high frequencies...which is not a complaint.
3. Of course Chet's physical models
4. The 808 model: this is really great sounding. Hat's off.
Some general questions.
1. Is anybody still getting the G1G2 conversion program working in Windows10 or Apple? I tried to get it to work using command line and having my soon look at the python code but no luck.
2. Is anybody looking at AI to create patches? I would think the code behind G1-G2 conversion could get one pretty close. Perhaps even using data from the patch mutator for reinforcement learning.
Hope to share some of my analogue models soon. |

Welcome - great to have you here.
I don't know about the status of the g1 to g2 conversion program(s) or the the use of AI to make patches. I still use my G2X at live performances frequently, especially at live streaming events here on electro-music.com. _________________ --Howard

Thanks for the response. This summer I been working on translating the excellent G2 808 model into the Nord Modular G1. I'll post the results when I feel they are ready: it requires using 3/4 of the unexpanded G1 slots but am happy to say it sounds fine. The cymbals and snare don't quite have the air of the G2, but it all sounds pretty good. I thought I'd wind up selling the G1 but am finding it is making an excellent drum brain. Would not have been aware of this without the amazing G2 808 model that was shared on this site. |

I posted my first G2 patch: an acoustic piano based on 2 Karplus Strong oscillators with an extensively shaped exciter and a simulated damper-based sympathetic resonator. |
