S1 anyone? |
 |
|
I might be getting one here as soon as next week. Where are all the S1 users at? I found this site through the Cwejman guestbook so hopefully more users come. |

I am sure they will show up ... hopefully soon. This is very hot gear. Please tell us what you think about the S1. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Thanks guys. I'll definitely let you know what I think when I get it. I'm glad this forum is up for Cwejman users. |

Can't you us OSC1 as an LFO? I thought the manual said something but I don't remember off the top of my head.
Don't know if I'll use it for bass or more for creating weird types of noises/effects Probably the latter. |

The S1 is a very sexy synth, and sure would like to try one. Too bad no standard jacks were used. I'd love to use the S1 together with my MOTM, without toying with adapters or special cables.
I got the Akai format sample cdrom a couple of months ago. Nice, but nothing special. Hope the real thing does better than the kinda bland sounds on the cdrom. I actually lost interest after hearing these, but the reviews suggest the real thing is really impressive. |

Yes you can. But if you like to use 3 Oscs you end up with one LFO. |

??? The S1 use standard jacks. Small phone plugs. I prefer these than the big versions, too bulky cables, you need a bigger frontplate,...
For the small space the s1 is a incredible machine. With 6.3mm phone plugs it would be double the size...
... and the envelopes are sooooo fast Last edited by tomcat on Sat Oct 15, 2005 3:10 am; edited 1 time in total |

Sorry, I wasn't clear. With 'standard jacks' I was referring to the 6.3 mm phone plugs, used on most non-banana modulars. I just don't like these converter cables, you never have enough of those, and they're never around when you need them.
Otoh, I would gladly try a 200e. |

0.5ms is good
I downloaded the manual for the S1. A very well thought out synthesiser, I like the ability to AM one oscillator with another, among other things.
The patch scheme is similar to the 2600, but this offers more modules and features. |

...yeah, and its timing & tuning is very stable. Good midi timing as well. Need a lot of fast 16th bass lines, for this its perfect. Little bit underused but i will change that also soon
And best of all (or worst - depends on my mood) ... i finally have to create the patches from ground up .. no possibility to load something and tweak it till it fits or not |

I too like the 3.5mm patch points. I don't want something all huge, take a look at the M5. That thing is big.
But so true I'll need converter plugs or some different patch cords if I want to interface with my Moogerfoogers and/or Voyager.
Thanks for the feedback tomcat. |

If you can solder by yourself you can do it like i did:
I like and use the cordial patch cables.
So i bought a 3m 6.3mm phone plug patch cable, cut it in half and soldered 3.5mm phone plugs on. Voila two 1.5m cordial custom cables. |

How well does the S1 MkII handle MIDI continuous controller data? Could a wind controller control the sound reliably?

Hmm...well I don't use a wind controller so I'm not sure. But I think if you wanted you could use the S1 editor and reassign one of the CV sources. Take CV3 for example (it's default is set to mod wheel) and assign it's function as Breath Controller in the editor. Then patch the CV3 Output to one of the OSC CV Inputs. This should work I think
Oh and the Midi to CV converter handles midi messages very well. |
