Cwejman S2 and Lyricon Wind Driver Subject description: work great together |

I thought I'd give an update on my S2 experiences after posting a topic in October last year. I have now worked and toured with my S2, modified by Wowa Cwejman and my Lyricon Wind Driver, updated by Lyricon inventor Bill Bernardi. The Lyricon is an amazingly well designed wind controller from the 1970's that uses CV outputs to connect to an external CV controlled synth (no MIDI!!). The Wind Driver has basically 3 CV outs, for lip control, wind control and pitch. I am connecting the lip CV to the TUNE and Filter Cutoff inputs at the back of the S2, the Wind CV to an extra CV input on the S2 that Wowa added for me called WIND (which controls the VCA, loudness), and the pitch CV to the TUNE input on the S2. Other extra options are to connect the Wind output to the FilterCutoff or the LFO rate on the S2. Basically anything is possible, although the S2 has limited CV inputs.
The sounds are absolutely amazing, the tuning is very stable, it always works. I get a much more wind instrument-like sound out of it then when I connect it to a midi keyboard, due to the very precise control I have with my lip and breath. The only two modifications that are still on my wishlist is to make a bypass switch for the EG's on the S2 because I really don't need any EG's, the Envelopes are generated by the Wind output on the Lyricon Driver, and any gating gets in the way of being able to play a very soft crescendo note really. The second one is to make a switch that replaces all the EG 1 mod sources on the S2 with another CV input on the back, that I could patch to Wind or Lip on the Lyricon. That way I'd have maximum control of S2 parameters by Wind and Lip pressure from the Lyricon. For instance the Osc. PWM level or the Mod Level in the Master section can then be controlled by the Lyricon's output. I added a picture of my setup, from a recording session in Chicago.
I'm very curious at the Cwejman modulars, if they can be prepatched this might be a very interesting and travel friendly solution for me as well...
