Two masterkeyboards simultaneously on the G2 engine Subject description: How can I use two kb controllers simultaneously on the engine, each one ctrl ists resp slot |

Hi to everybody,
I'm new to the forum and extremely interested in buying the Nord Modular G2 engine. I was instantly addicted to that outstanding concept when I read about the modular architecture. Shure, there's software like Reaktor. But I don't like dependency on PlugIns, it's not reliable on stage to work with laptops. And can you imagine using a desktops and external monitor-screens mobile? What's up to me I'm of the old "rock solid hardware for the specific purpose" school.
Furthermore I think the Nord Modular is much easier to program and patch and it must be pure pleasure in comparison to the Reaktor.
Anyhow, there's one question, that's certainly crucial for me. I would like to use the G2 engine with 2 keyboard-controllers in multitrimbral-mode. One masterkeyboard controlling the first slot on full octave-width and the other controller doing it as well, full octave-width, independently with the second slot.
Is that possible? I recon' it should be possible by making the two masterkeyboards send their midi-messages on their respective midi channels. But then again: The engine has only one midi-input plug. Or would slaving the midi-out signal of the first controller via midi-through through the second one and the second ones midi-out routing to midi-in on the engine be the solution??
Another crucial question for me:
I read a lot about reboot problems with the engine in other threads. engines getting stuck and stalling when trying to update the OS or when loading patches that contain defects.
The answer in this threads was that those major problems were recognized by Clavia and the bug fixed by OS 1.32 update.
Can I rely on obtaining an engine with that updated OS version already installed (or better yet: the current 1.4) by Clavia when buying the engine now, Jan 2005? (In Vienna/Austria)
Thanx a lot

Question specified |

Thanks, Seraph!
But to further specify my question and concern:
Is the engine capable of responding to two simultaneously and parallel via respective midi channels recieved midi commands? Is it capable in a multitimbral setting of controlling the one slot by the received midi commands on channel x and the other slot by the recieved midi commands on channel y thus being able to play one patch with the first keyboard and the other patch with the second keyboard? Simultaneously.
Have a nice day everybody,

Yes, sure. In normal operation each slot responds to its own MIDI channel. You can set each slot to whichever channel you wish in the editor.
You can probalby push the first controller through the MIDI THRU of the second controller providing a simple MIDI merger. Chaining more than two devices can cause some noticable delays.
As for the engines hanging - well there are many people with engines that upgrade them without problems. I wouldn't worry about it. _________________ --Howard

I wouldn't do that ... I mean rely on ... it might still be shipped with OS V1.1 ... but of course, like mosc said, most people have had no problems updating the OS.
I've got two engines myself and have updated those at least some 20 times or so and did not have any problems. It would be wise to follow Clavia's advice to unplug all MIDI, well at least the inputs, I guess. And maybe don't try to upgrade two engines simultaniously .. I never tried that BTW ;-) _________________ Jan
