CD encoding 588??

hi guys!

can anybody help me try and define the data structure for encoding a CD, explain why 588 bits are required to fully encode a stereo sample.

Ive been looking at CIRC and Eight to Fourteen error correcting codes, because thats the information i find when i search for CD encoding

Can anybody help me?

Ahhh... easy... kinda.. it depends on how familiar you are with thinking bits and bytes low level and such. A cute text on the subject is here:

I think that one pretty much explains it in detail and quite explicit at that. Keep those shades on.
