totally random here, I didn't know where else to post this.
ok, i need to make sure a)my speakers aren't fucked, and b) my uploading/importing software isn't on the ropes so
the track "mookid" on i care because u do, can someone verify some quite noticeable clipping/distortion via the bass drums especially during the last half + of the track? I swear I never noticed this before and i've had this album for probably eight years......

Yes it sounds like your speakers are doomed.

Try putting a sine wave through them and changing the frequency to the lower end (watch out for your tweeters though Exclamation ). If they start farting, then you may have to recone them Shocked

What speakers have you got?

Yeah, sounds like some overloading of something there. Pritty heavy once you notice it but tastefully done and fine within the mix. It doesn seem to have some similarity to speakers being pushed to hard indeed.

Edit; X-posts with V here. I'm trying to say the track on my non-fuxored speakers on low volume (neigbours, time...) does have a air of something being blown.

Sine sweeps are good anyway so try that as well.

I had a pair of Alesis Monitor one's which went the same way, but reconing was far cheaper than buying a new driver.

i just got some brand spanking new krk studio monitors......i think its just distortion in the aphex track though. Lord knows i'm working on a track right now and i'm using sine sweeps like a goddman janitor. Anyhow thinks for the replies.
and kassen you say "It doesn seem to have some similarity to speakers being pushed to hard indeed."

I just acquired a pair of paradigm Titan 2 way 6" woof 2.5" tweeter .
I was hesitant to use them as studio monitors but they take a pounding and keep on sounding.
I would recommend these.
Not cheap if you are going to buy them .
I didn't .They were a gift.

Hmm that's the problem with top notch speakers. They bring out all the faults in the mix, which to most engineers is a plus. I tend to mix on headphones these days, because constantly repeating stuff drives my wife crazy Laughing

I would imagine that the early aphex stuff was mixed on poor monitors too- I'm guessing Beyer DT-770's, because when I saw Aphex live back in 1993, he was monitoring with those cans.

I too mix with Beyer's
