I've been listening to a lot of sigur ros, the album leaf and late radiohead stuff recently and I've been interested in the beats they use. I can't understand how they make them, like the method behind them. I love the beats, they sound soft and simple, yet complicated. They don't sound too muddled. I've tried my best to learn from their music, but it's hard to understand what they imput the midi data or how they program it. There's almost a glitchiness to the drum beats. I was wondering if anyone knows what I'm talking about and can help me out to learn more about making these type of drum beats?

Thanks

Try getting a copy of Tuareg (I think it's called something else now)(It's free)
Chop up tiny bits of anything in Soundforge, and then use these bits to build a rhythm in Tuareg.
That's how I'd start trying it out.
