How do I record audio coming from my computer? Subject description: Please help! |
 |
|
So this is really hard for me to explain, but I want to know how I can record audio coming out of my computer.
Like say I'm playing around in a program called Metasynth and I want to use what I'm playing around with in a song in Logic or something. Is there a free application for OS X that I can use to just record all of the audio coming out of my computer?
If nobody understands this, let me know. Lol.
Thanks! |

you do not need any "free application". Once you are done with Metasynth you can render/save it as .aif file and then import it as audio file in Logic. _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Lol I'm sorry I was using metasynth just as an example. I mean like ANY audio coming out of the computer....Gosh I don't know how to explain it.
Ok, so say I want to use the computer speech function in OS X in one of my songs. I open up text edit, type in what I want the computer to say, then right click and make it speak the text aloud. How would I record this using a program that would just record any and all audio coming out of the computer's speakers?
Does that make more sense? haha anyone?
EDIT: and no I don't want to actually record what's coming out of the computer's speakers, because then I would just hold a microphone up to the computer. I want to record everything from INSIDE the computer. I wish there was an easier way to explain this...but then if there was, I would be able to type it up in google and find what I'm looking for lol. |

Danke, I'll try it out.
Haha I hope that just because it's from Cycling '74 doesn't mean it has an extremely high learning curve. |

Can't you just set the soundcard to record "what you hear" like on a PC type of soundcard? _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

Probably depends on the soundcard? I wouldn't know how to do that with a build-in card under Windows either. _________________ Kassen |

In this case Soundflower, Jack, AudioHijack, Wiretap and similar tools would be better since they allow for recording the output from specific applications. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Mac users have all the luck- some really cool software, we will probably never see the likes of on Window |

Yes I would use one of those apps that elektro80 mentions.
I must point out that PCs have had this ability well ahead I believe of macs using virtual routing software Cappy. VAC is one of many options for pc. |

Depends on how you look at it. EMU and RME (and likely others too?) make soundcards that will do this routing for you. I think that these days there are also ASIO loopback drivers. _________________ Kassen |

| The free PC audio program Audacity has a 'What U Hear' option in the recording source dropdown. Seems to work fine. |

For routing audio between apps:
http://www.jackosx.com/
http://www.cycling74.com/downloads/soundflower
Try use any of these for routing the audio output out of whatever into say Audacity.
For recording audio output from apps with no "save as audio" option:
http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/wiretap/
http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijack/
These apps are really inexpensive and offer many interesting features.
And there are more similar apps out there..
It is quite true that you can route audio to and from your soundcard ( depending on features and drivers ) but using free/inexpensive software tools seems a better option. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"
