cCleaner freeware

I would have put this in the freeware thread, but I felt it was too important to have there.

A colleague at work has just told me to download a freeware utility called cCleaner as my bootcamp partition was crawling. I had up until then been using 'Tune-up utilities' that I wasn't paying for- £30?? are you mad???. Anyway I've run this cCleaner thingie and the bootcamp partition is going like a rocket again!

So, in a nutshell- any PC noobs out there, 'cCleaner' it'll get that old bag of spanners back working again. Alternatively you could always do the decent thing and get a Mac or run Linux instead then you'd never have to run stuff like this in the first place Wink

You could always try it. I just tried it and it told me that I had 1.6 gigs of crap that I could get rid of. So I got rid of it and XP's running really well again.

It may take all that Quicktime away for you?

Hey it does a registry cleanup in under a second ... windows can't even search something in it that fast ... Shocked

cCleaner is pretty good... I use it on my work machine routinely. It's amazing how much utter garbage gets left behind in the temp directory. If windows had memory leaks as bad as its temp-file leaks, M$ would be out of business.

Why do you even bother using IE? It's horrible!! Shocked

Firefox is a far better browser for Windows.

I know the guy who showed CCleaner to me had an ability to right click and scan anything. I guess you turn these things on or off in your preferences?

Oh, I guess I clicked past the install dialogs too quickly. I was a bit scared that I might have stumbled across some hacked version that could be up to other mischief besides modifying my browser.

I agree that IE sucks bigtime. My experience of workplaces, though, is that there are always some parts of the custom intranet web portal that require an Internet Explorer to be able to view it. If not for the fact that they have added:

ah yes, you can launch ccleaner from the recycle bin right click menu....
