Subject description: Can I use a different 12V adapter safely?

I just got a new Multitrack recorder, whose 12V adapter was discarded at the store.

Anyways, I found a 12V adapter that works with it, and it starts up fine.

I'm hesitating to use it with this alternate adapter though---I'm sure it takes a 12V and all...But is it safe to use this random adapter and all?

Your help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Destroyifyer

...(It's a Tascam DP-01 recorder by the way.)

As long as a few basics are met, you should be OK.

The polarity of the plug must be the same (ie. center positive).

The current carrying capacity of the power supply must be the same or more than the original. You may have to do some research to verify this. It is expressed in Milliamps which is abreviated ma or MA. it is probably in the hundreds of Milliamps, but check with your owners manual to be sure.

The plug of course has to fit the socket well. Some may fit loosely, and appear to be useable at first. They will turn out not to be good. The plug must fit firmly into the socket to ensure proper operation.

Of course the power supply must be of the same voltage and type (AC or DC).

Hope this helps.

Thank you, that's just what I needed to find out.

Appreciate it.
