I finally figured out how to do MIDI in Cubase LE. So I learned what VST instruments are all about.

I went to this site

http://www.vstplanet.com/Instruments/VST_Synthesizers2.htm

and downloaded some free VSTs. But I can't get them to run in Cubase LE. I wonder what I'm not doing. Does Cubase LE simply not allow you to see them?

My son showed me Reason and how you could make incredible sounds with software synths. I'm hoping I can do this with Cubase LE too... if I can get those software synths with LFO & other cool effects.

OK I answered my own question, all I needed was to put them into the folder called "VST Plugins".

I got these weird synths to work, and now I understand the meaning of the word "SICK" Laughing

Only problem is, it froze my Cubase. Guess I'll have to wait till I get more memory.

Yes, VST hosts require a lot of memory, but its probably the best host since they invented it.

Is your computer fairly new?

I've been looking into making my own software a VST host, but I'm worried that it will be a huge waste of time if the memory required for that plus the current memory required for my program would make it freeze on most computers.

Anyway, I'm saving up for a hardware synth since they can accept midi messages from any midi program.
