Can someone please help me? I have a cheap keyboard that I hooked up to my PC via midi/USB cables. I'm trying to use this keyboard ONLY as a midi controller, i don't want its crappy sounds, I want to be able to use the virtual instruments my software comes with for playback, but when i go to select the output on the midi tracks, it only gives me my keyboard as an option!!

I know that the M-Audio sound card I'm using doesn't have midi playback, so I do know I'll probably end up having to buy a new sound card. I've been looking into this card on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Audiophile-2496-Recording-Interface/dp/B00006I5H5/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1205212101&sr=8-1

Would someone be so kind as to let me know if this is the right sound card for what I want to do?

Try downloading the free "sfx" soundfont player and see if that shows up in your software.
If not, I would make a new soundcard my next priority. Very Happy
