This really look interesting and saw the NAMM videos. Do any of you have any experiences with Livewire Elec. modules and this company? It seems they are taking preorders but hesitate to do so without knowing how they have been in the past. This is the best place to ask Wink

I am impressed with the timbral animation features of this VCO !!!

Thanks in advance fellas !

I got to hear the then-current (no pun) version back last October, and wanted one from that. I don't know if it has changed any since then (the "drift" or "random" feature was jittery as opposed to smooth).

Well, here are videos from Summer NAMM that Hexfix93 posted to the "Modular Synth" group. I was very impressed by this VCO. You can be the judge and compare what you saw from October I really like all the modulation sources. This VCO has a real "evil", harmonically rich, sounding bass that I am so attracted to in electronic music these days.

Thanks for your post ...... I am sure your not the only one here that has used Livewires products .......

Please note that there were some changes made to the design since last fall. The stability control is gone. Replaced by a new feature. Its all up on the Livewire website now.

I've had a chance to hear the AFG over at Livewire (the final production version) and its really quite incredible. Not only does it have a vintage sound but the wave shaping section is second to none (ok, well maybe a buchla but lets compare prices...)

Livewire isn't doing the assembly either. Its being handled by an electronics mfr. and produced in production runs.

Price is $399.00.

Click the link and it will generate an E-mail to Shawn at AnalogueHaven to get you on the list.

I did it first so I will get probably #2.

This is really getting interesting. I would really like to get one but I don't any of modular gear in this form factor. It might be a good time to start Very Happy All my stuff is either FRAC or DIY 19" rack mounted stuff.

Starting another modular might have to wait. Robin and I are looking at buying another home, preferably with a large basement that I can totally finish off. This would allow me to expand. however, I could just go for this module as a start and integrate it with the rest of my modular:?: Oh this duality is killing me!!! Shocked

Well, here is the link to find the price, hear it, see it, pre-order it . etc .....

I second that my friend Very Happy Very Happy The sound samples are what really sell it for me to. I have been putting together fracs for a few years so going Euro is whats holing me back from parting with my cash. I wonder if Livewire will ever decide to go frac Question I believe I will e-mail them and ask .....

Hehe. Actually I`m using MOTM format and I hope my CGS VCO and Saw Animators will do the same thing, but I still think the Livewire is a tremendous value when you compare the price and features against, say a Modcan or MOTM VCO.

If the saw animator is the Cynthia module based upon electronotes, know that it is dependent upon frequency. The effect speeds up with pitch, and unless you can use keytracking to slow it down, the most useful range is in the lower octaves (where it is really nice).

I have a Saw Animater and it cannot do anything similar to the AFG. The AFG has independent control modulation on the upper and lower pert of the waveform (Saw or Pulse). This lets you create incredibly complex sounds using LFO's or ENV's to evolve an analog waveform in time.

Nothing like this in analog have ever existed so even if you have other you could go ahead and stick one in a little $110 Doepfer Mini-case.

Actually, about the Saw Animator, the one alteration made to the Electronotes circuit was too eliminate the frequency dependent aspect of it's behavior.

Did Cynthia incorporate that fix into later modules? The one I played with, an early unit, acted as I've described. It would be very cool to own one with a fix...

Perhaps I was thinking of something else. Another problem associated with the Hutchins circuit was that the low notes were too heavily affected and the high notes were too lightly affected. That was fixed. Anyway, the AFG seems more versatile. I'm thinking of getting a mini case for it.

Wondering how it would sound to put the AFG through the saw animator.
