How do you remix?

I am sort of knowledgeable on the basics of how electronic music is made- a synthesizer hooked up to a mixer hooked up to a software sequencer seems to be the usual setup. So, my question is, how do people make remixes? Do they do it all software based?

The usual way would be to get all the stems, lay them out in your DAW and get the bpm right.. or rework it until it does the way you like it. Then you start the hard work reworking the whole thing into whatever you want it to become. You know, adding bass lines, singing midgets and fancy stuff like that.
That being said, I don´t really do remixes.

Well, I did for Chris Orczy but that was not really a remix. Shocked
