Eno & Wright on generative systems, particularly in music and games but many other fields get touched on. Some very interesting and thought-provoking points in there. _________________ Kassen |

It's timely that you posted this as I have been working with my own generative system for the past week, making music with ChucK Lab. It has a Boolean Sequencer that is enabling me to create songs very quickly and creatively. I did not realize that it was a generative system until I watched the video. (well, I watched two thirds of it). Nice find! _________________ "Let's make noise for peace." - Kijjaz |

Just finished it, I especially liked Eno's comments and his sense of humor. Wright's question about whether Eno had a "fitness function" for weeding out the 90% of the uninteresting generated music space before Eno actually had to listen to it, and Eno's reply that he basically knows of no such function, and in fact the "hit formula" often has the opposite effect, was probably my favorite part. I also liked the contrast between Eno's music stretching time and Wright's games contracting time at 1:11:36, and finally Eno's discussion of putting musicians into novel modes of operation to break out of their habits at 1:24, which is a practice that Miles Davis was also noted for.
The My Life in the Bush of Ghosts on-line remix reference was also quite interesting.
Thanks for the post! _________________ When the stream is deep
