MIDI networking seems less interesting today because of all the software synths around than ten years ago when all synths were hardware based but nevertheless it's cool....kind of too late maybe _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

I see this as a very useable feature. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

This feature is meant for sending midi data between computers. This means I can let the mellotron mac communicate with the PPG mac and the Cubase mac and the Korg Legacy mac and so forth.
Is there such as a Tiger compatible "midi over network" ethernet to midi interface? Please?
As for old synths, yes.-. but most of the old midi equipped synths I have, I play and I don´t sequnce them using midi. I might look into a midi-> CV interface though. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

paraphrasing recent headlines I would say: "make MIDI history"

I know this is an old subject but now that I'm running Tiger I thought I'd bring it up again. I read that article in Macmusic about Midi over LAN and they ask the question: "And what about to connect to windows computers too?"
So is it possible to run Midi from a Mac running Tiger to a PC? _________________ Apple Mac Pro 3.1 2.88 GHz. Intel Xeon Quad

Thanks for the answer but that is just too expensive for me at this time. _________________ Apple Mac Pro 3.1 2.88 GHz. Intel Xeon Quad

I have no idea if this is useful at all ...
Kiss-box seems to make a windows driver for MIDI-RTP and that should be the same thing Apple is using for MIDI over Ethernet according to this Wikipedia article (see the section "RTP-MIDI Transport Protocol").
Kiss-box = http://www.kiss-box.com/ and they do indeed have a driver in the downloads section and also there is a kiss-box manual telling you how to install that driver on XP, but I've no idea what it can do once installed, but it's not a full implementation of the Apple thing.
I'll check it out later.
Anyway the article suggests that the Apple implementation might be on its way to become a defacto standard, the Wikipedia article has some links to the standard as well BTW, but I didn't check those out either. _________________ Jan

That doesn't seem to be very usable ... I can't get the windows driver to actually send any packets ... let alone send data to something. _________________ Jan

The OS X implementation works great, but what we really need is a compatible ethernet midi 8-8 breakout and merger and fully functional router and patchbay.. and ethernet-midi nodes.. and then we can finally get rid of the utterly stupid USB interface shit. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"
