To those of you who have just experienced Electro-Music for the first time, I would like to extend a warm welcome.
You'll find that, artistically, this is going to be your home away from home.
In fact, if you're NOT envigorated and inspired to do more with your art after this experience, something is seriously wrong.

In the past three years that I've attended this event, I've discovered it not only attracts electro-musicians and electro-music fans, but also visual artists and people who are simply looking to satisfy a hunger for new music and art.

By participating in this festival, you are doing a number of things:
Expanding your musical horizons AND your creative potential,
expanding the creative boundaries of the art and the technology,
Bringing the art and the technology to the masses in an entertaining manner and having a GREAT time in the process.

Your contribution goes way beyond the price of a ticket,..it is priceless.

When you get home, I strongly encourage you to be our embassadors and spread the word to other electro-musicians, whether they be professionals or amateurs. Also, if you know any visual artists who are interested in putting their art to music, they too are welcome.

Though I was unable to attend this year, I applaude your talent as well as your courage and willingness to stand on equal ground with other electro-musicians.

God willing, I will see you all next year.

Jose Murcia (aka JEM of Fringe Element and Symmetry)

I'm so glad I attended. I had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people who were happy to share knowledge and their art.

Thank you to everyone who made me feel welcome. I really appreciate it.

JEM
We missed you and you had better never miss another.
You had better start planning now for next years even if it is in
Fairbanks Alaska.

Alaska? That would be so coool.
The rent is probably cheaper. There's probably lots of well-ventilated performance space and acres of parking space.
What do you think Greg? Howard?

We could save ourselves the trouble of bringing projectors by playing to a backdrop of the Northern Lights! Sign me up.

When the electro-music festival gets popular enough that we can draw big crowds wherever we go, then we will start going to some more exotic locations. Maybe more frequently as well.

I've been out of the loop for several months. Are there any electro music jams/performances planned for the philly area in the future?

I sure miss you guys even though I never met you!

MyOwnYoko aka John Dugan suggested starting an electronic music
event in the Jenkintown area .
Although no plans have been made ,he is sure he can organize it in a church that has ample space and a stage.
stay tuned

i'm surprised that there's no other affordable venues in Pennsylvania besides Cheltenham.
Have we exhausted every possible venue in New Jersey?
Apparently Kingsport is a great place, but do we want to go there every year?
We may end up having to move around by default.

I'm sure there are some good venues out there, but we need people to help us find them. I will check with Cheltenham to see if they have changed their mind and might be willing to do it next year.

I live in the Philly burbs & I know there are lots & lots of suburban high schools, tech schools & community colleges, surely one of them would be a good venue.

If we have to 'move around", maybe it's a blessing in disguise, because by the time the festival gets back to Philly I will actually have learned to PLAY my synth!!! Laughing

Thanks Mark. I missed you too.
That performance you did with Peck and Mosc was over the top and out of sight. It's amazing how you can connect with people you've been performing with for a long time to the extent that you belt out one great show after another. Was that I live jam or did you rehearse with Mosc?

I absolutely, positively will NOT miss EM2009,..and I know you'll be there.

Thanks. That was totally unrehearsed. We discussed who would do what 5 minutes before the performance.

Both of the unrehearsed improvs to which Mosc contributed were excellent, this one and the one with John Hoge and David Vosh (safe 2). They were very magical performances.

I agree completely. All the ensemble groups I heard blew me away.

This is probably a naive and stupid question, but in a group, how are the sequences synchronized? I noticed in some cases synths didn't have MIDI in or out connected, only audio out and perhaps a pedal or two input, yet it seemed to me that multiple performers were using arpeggiators and step sequencers and everything was synchronized. Is this done somehow by hand? Did it just seem that it was what I heard? Was it decided that only one performer would be allowed to arpeggiate? I've thought about this a bit and can not figure it out.

My kit is sync'd to my Akai keyboard controller's clock. Michael is not connected to my clock, but we know each other's tempo. With Mosc, Michael, and me, our set was not clocked at all. We just knew what each's tempo was and tried to play to it.

Thanks Mark. So it's raw skill plus deciding on a tempo.

Fringe Element also uses both of these techniques.
In all three of the previous Electro-Music festivals, I synchronized my rig to Greg's clock since most of the material we played was either his or mine.
However, we decided earlier this year to sync by ear.
I suppose that in the end it all depends on the piece that we're playing.

More than likely, such is the case with the other performers at the festival.
